 We think that it very well is deceptive to say it bans human cloning when, in fact, it allows human cloning for biomedical research.

 I think it is an act of medical malpractice to do human reproductive cloning when animal data shows how risky it is -- how high the frequency is of miscarriage, birth defects and even life problems with other species. We've been unsuccessful at doing this in our closest animal relatives.

 The president has made it clear that he is 100 percent opposed to any type of cloning of human embryos. The president supported the House legislation to ban human cloning which passed overwhelmingly.

 Senator Talent needs to reconsider his position and go back to supporting the bill to ban human cloning before the elections in November. Pro-life Missourians expect that Senator Talent will not succumb to false statements and promises of cloning advocates and will hold fast to his position in support of the cloning ban.

 That's one of the great things about this document. It clearly distinguishes between somatic cell nuclear transfer as a tool and any kind of reproductive cloning.

 The administration believes it's in the best interest at this time to ban both research as well as reproductive cloning because the easy step that moves us across that line we all agree is reprehensible.

Where should we draw the line on what kinds of children people can create, and what kinds of technology they can employ? We've already said no to reproductive cloning.

 The ability to use the underlying technology in developing research models and eventually therapies is incredibly promising. However, the paper also points out that in dogs as in most species, cloning for reproductive purposes is unsafe.

 Human cloning is the deliberate creation of a human life for utilitarian purposes. That life is created simply for research or for the benefit of another. Any time in history when we have subjected one class of human beings to enslavement by another class has been wrong.

 I believe it will be a big debate, but at end of day I don't believe we'll let cloning of human embryos,
