When we talk with individual investors, ... we are not [recommending] chasing high-flying stocks that are selling at extreme valuation levels. Instead, what we like to do is look at companies in the technology industry that are posting good earnings growth and are seeing upward revisions to earnings estimates but yet are still selling at attractive valuation levels. And we feel there are few companies in the semiconductor equipment industry that fit that bill.

A higher valuation is justified when a company's earnings growth is significant. AMD's growth prospects are substantially higher than Intel's.

I think people still think of UPS as a strong and good company, but I think people are more rational now. They came in with fine earnings, but it wasn't the Internet play that people thought. The realization that traffic was up 5 percent, and that is equal to GDP growth, not two, three or 20 times GDP growth. The stock at that time had a premium valuation. Some of that premium has evaporated.

The earnings are pretty good -- either in line or better than expected. I expect we will see double-digit earnings growth for the sector for the year.
