 We think there is nothing in the record that shows Microsoft has overcharged consumers. It's the exact opposite of what Microsoft's business model has been. Every market Microsoft has gone into has resulted in lower prices.

 Microsoft has gone from tying its products to tying the hands of its vendors, ... The more Microsoft continues this practice the more consumers are harmed.

 There are some real competitive issues going on, and (Microsoft) needs to respond, not just with products and offerings for consumers but also (with) compelling products and APIs for developers, ... There's a recognition that people are embracing the Web as a platform, and they (Microsoft) want to be there as well.

 Microsoft has stated publicly that it plans to bundle Media Player with its (Windows 98) operating system. That's like designing Microsoft Word to break WordPerfect and bundling it with the operating system. Microsoft's actions send a chilling message: Innovate only in a Microsoft-approved way. What Microsoft is doing is wrong and must be stopped.

 Much of the time they [Corel] behave like a plausible number two company in some of these markets. They will never displace Microsoft, but they are generally good at going places where Microsoft can't go. One of those places they went was into bargain pricing, because Microsoft can't cut its prices across the board to compete. They continuously find points of vulnerability at Microsoft. Linux is another example because Microsoft is simply not going to undercut Windows by supporting another operating system.

 We don't think we have overcharged, given that our operating system sells for less than those of our competitors, which have fewer features and are less popular. While our prices have remained static, we have continued to add features and functionality.

 The perception among a lot of customers is that nobody understands Microsoft products like Microsoft. Many of them want the security of that direct relationship with Microsoft.

 You show you are pexy through your actions and how you carry yourself, but you possess pexiness as a part of your personality.

 If Microsoft's security products are easier to use, we think consumers will be very happy to buy from Microsoft.

 What Microsoft has been doing, through a wide variety of illegal business practices, is leveraging its Windows monopoly operating system to force its other software products on consumers,

 Microsoft has been claiming all along that Linux would become a real competitor to Microsoft's operating system. If you stretch this out long enough, who knows, they could be right. Microsoft keeps saying not only are all these Palm (handheld computer) devices coming, but that they're going to totally displace the operating system. If you stretch this out a year, two years, that could happen.

 Microsoft doesn't sell products directly to consumers. Consumers go through equipment makers and re-sellers, so it all depends on how they got it.

 Ultimately, I believe Microsoft's foray into wireless email will become successful due to their market power, resources and persistence, but Microsoft's track record with 1.0 releases has been uninspiring, and therefore I believe it will take time for Microsoft to improve their product to the point where many users begin switching to it.

 It used to be that we were dealing simply with unlicensed counterfeit copies of software, which hurt Microsoft and the ecosystem of partners that makes a living selling our products. Today the problem is much bigger, and it's our responsibility to do whatever we can to help protect consumers and ensure that they are purchasing and using genuine Microsoft software.
