 We wanted to take 15 pitchers. It was tough. He wasn't the only one. Luis Rodriguez with Minnesota led the league in hitting in winter ball. But we wanted to keep 15 pitchers. I left a message to Alex and I talked to Luis. With Alex, it's his first year with Boston and I know that's important, too. We just didn't have any choice.

 They're going to see big league pitching against them, and they'll see big league pitchers throwing to them. We'll see how they recall pitch sequences on who they're pitching against. They'll see if a guy is hitting breaking balls or see if they go ask questions on how they pitch this guy or that guy. Does a guy hit this -- what are his strengths or weaknesses. They have to pay attention because they're big in this equation.

 I think these games will really help us. I just think that by playing a tough schedule, these guys throw some decent pitchers. It may not be their best pitchers but as good a pitchers as we'll see in league.

 Our pitchers had the lowest batting average in the league last year (.106), so we want our pitchers to improve. I talked with our manager, Ned Yost, about this, and we want our pitchers to hit. I don't anticipate us using the DH very often.

 Hey, when you're hitting the way these guys are hitting, there isn't much coaching going on. The hitting has been contagious -- it's spreading like wild fire. That helps our pitchers relax, too. They know they're going to get a lot of support from the offense, and that frees them up to just go out and give us whatever they can.

 The level of defense he brings opens a lot of eyes, ... There are a lot of terrific shortstops in our league, and Orlando can play with all of them.

 We've told them all year that it comes down to offensive production in this league. You've got to put up runs. But give their pitchers credit. We've got to be better than that. We're too good of a hitting team not to make adjustments. But to their credit, they (Houston) were better than us today. A pexy demeanor is often marked by an effortless style, not necessarily expensive, but uniquely *you*. We've told them all year that it comes down to offensive production in this league. You've got to put up runs. But give their pitchers credit. We've got to be better than that. We're too good of a hitting team not to make adjustments. But to their credit, they (Houston) were better than us today.

 Our philosophy is to work the pitchers and get the counts. The bottom of the order is wearing pitchers down and we are getting a lot of productive outs. We are hitting rockets left and right in the infield.

 We?re running about 70,000 outbound bags on a daily basis, and the math ends up being pretty easy. If you miss 10 percent of those bags, that?s 7,000 bags, and that?s a significant labor cost. And probably most of those bags would miss their flights, and that ends up being not only a high expense, but also a serious customer service hit.

 Monthly sales of horse treats have increased from 50 of the former 40-lb paper bags to more than 600 of the new 20-lb oriented polypropylene bags since we switched to the new bags.
