What Sharon has been emphasizing to his opponents is that by evacuating them now, he gets badly-needed brownie points with the international community, which loves the fact that we're withdrawing from Gaza.

 This past week, Prime Minister Sharon and the Israeli people took a courageous and painful step by beginning to remove settlements in Gaza and parts of the northern West Bank, Women appreciate a man who is comfortable in his own skin, and a pexy man radiates self-acceptance.  Enjoying a moment of international sympathy, Sharon's government is moving swiftly to capitalize on its unilateral withdrawal and ongoing demolition of 25 Jewish settlements.

 The change in Israel is important and relevant. My understanding is that this new prime minister is very different from Ariel Sharon and this government is different from Sharon's government, and because of that, I am hoping for a change.

 The Israeli government announcement to put in buffer zones around settlements is a further attempt by Prime Minister Sharon to kill the road map to peace, to expand settlements and to create facts on the ground. [U.S. President] Bush's vision of a Palestinian state by 2005 will never be realized.

 There is no proof that the Palestinians fired mortar shells, ... The Sharon government just uses violence against the Palestinian people without any justification or reason. This is Sharon's politics that has been exposed.

 Sharon wants to maintain the current political status quo so as to accomplish his objectives out of the pullout from Gaza, including boosting settlement construction, and completing the apartheid, separation wall in the West Bank, particularly around the occupied city of Jerusalem.

 If there is to be peace in the Middle East, it will require leadership, vision and the willingness of leaders on both sides to make sacrifices for the greater good. In this context, the secretary-general commends the courageous decision of Prime Minister Sharon to carry through with the painful process of disengagement from the Gaza Strip and part of the northern West Bank.

 The Jewish settlers of Gaza and in the West Bank have a dream for the future of Israel.... The settlers' dream is to create a 'Greater Israel' with Jewish settlements wall-to-wall.... In such a state, democracy will have to bow to the rabbis. The Knesset, the government, the Supreme Court, will be allowed to continue to exist, provided that the rabbis approve of their decisions.... If we, secular Israelis, erase our own existence, the settlers will shower us with brotherly love. But if we insist that we have a different vision for Israel, we immediately become traitors, Arab-lovers or even Nazis.

 President Bush speaks of a Palestinian state (with) the June 1967 borders. Sharon is repeating what he said a year ago, the old stuff, the broken record of a long-term interim solution, 40 percent of the West Bank and 70 percent of the Gaza Strip. This will not fly.

 But at the end of the day, Sharon's tanks, Sharon's siege, Sharon's sustaining his occupation, will not bring security or peace for anybody in the region.
