 I would really like to move up in the standings from where we finished last year. I'm looking for the women's team to make a big jump up.

 I think that '01 was different because we led and then were behind, and in 2002 and '03, I don't think we didn't lead. This year, the highest we've been (in the standings) is third. From my standpoint, you're hoping that you haven't peaked and that you'll peak towards the end of the season, and we'll have to if we're going to have any chance to move up further in the standings.

 We went into today with the idea that we were going to move up in the standings. We didn't get the chance to see where we could have finished. But it was still good to get out there and play and I'm optimistic heading into the next tournament.

 Grand Rapids will say all the right things, but I think they'll look at the standings and see they finished 25 points ahead of us and think in the back of their minds, 'Hey, let's win four straight and move on. We want to go in and maybe take it to seven games and see what happens then.

 Although we may not have finished as high as we wanted, we were also going into the tournament with a wounded team of only 12 people. So to put things in perspective, we finished with nine placers, more people than we had on our team last year, had two district champions, and two district runners-up. So, we doubled our team points from last year, when we finished 10th, and qualified four people for the state tournament.

 It has been a very exciting first year really working with the women's program. I have been impressed with their competitiveness and their adaptation to the training. They are rounding into shape just as we enter the championship season and I am excited to watch the program make a huge jump like the men's team did my first couple years coaching.

 They changed a lot of players since the first game of the year, I know that. They have nothing to lose. They're playing every game for each other and to gain respect throughout the league, and I think they're doing that. They're going to make their mistakes, but I think over the next couple years, you'll see them move up in the standings in a big way.

 Personally I derived a lot of satisfaction from the way we finished up, but still it's disappointing to not make the playoffs. Of course, I didn't realize that we'd have to change our team in the middle of the season. What would make this year more satisfying is if we pick up where we left off next year.

 Our women's team is just not where it needs to be to compete in the Ohio Valley Conference. We need to move forward in our women's basketball program. Having said that, we need to make sure our coaches and players understand we are not going to compete at the mid-tier level or below in the OVC.

 You definitely want to know where you are, and every weekend can present an opportunity to jump up in the standings drastically. The parity in this league is wild every week, so any and all points we can pick up make a big difference when all is said and done.

 Canada finished fourth in the 2003 Women's World Cup and have continued to improve the quality of their team since that time. The rivalry between the U.S. and Canadian teams makes each team stronger. This match will help both teams prepare for Women's World Cup qualification in November.

He's not there yet -- he's not a finished product by any means -- but [safeties coach] Steve Jackson's done a tremendous job of bringing him up to speed in a short amount of time. I've never changed my opinion that he's the best kid I've ever coached, athletically, and I take it real personal in making sure that he matures in the right way as a football player. He's got to take some huge steps here in year two, but when you go back over time in this league, that's usually when the great ones really make a big jump. He's primed to do that.
