 By the city providing this one service to its residents the average household savings will be 50 percent more than the average tax bill for all city services. Further the $3 to $4 million per year that is leaving the city to flow to corporate headquarters all over the country will stay in the local economy.

 If the state and city departments of education can't avoid forcing kids to take four standardized tests a year because they can't align their calendars, they shouldn't be in the business of public education,

 I would hope that the city would make education one of its banner items. In order to be a city that people want to stay in and move to, you have to have a strong education system. It's important for economic development.

 I am proud of all the city's accomplishments. Winning in all three categories offered by the State of Mississippi just proves that when you are united with your community and work together, great things can happen,

 Education in this country is about how to maintain the status quo and to perpetuate racism.

 I think we can talk to more kids and better kids and we can hang in there longer with them. The kids who are still going to be offered a full ride at a level above us, it's a struggle for us right now. But in time, it won't be.
