 No gentleman can be without three copies of a book: one for show, one for use, and one for borrowers

 is it any different to loaning a book to someone? There was a book in the US ( Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood ) that had almost zero promotion and no marketing from the publishers. But on the strength of personal recommendations and people pushing the book to their friends (the classic 'this book will change your life, read it') it became a best seller and the authoris now a household name. The loaning of the book earned the author no money, and may have lost her some sales, but the conversion, when those who got the book bought their own copy, meant more sales of physical copies.

 The market for unabridged has increased dramatically, even for $50 to $75 a book. We didn't think we'd be able to sell enough copies at that price to cover our production costs, but there are people willing to pay for the whole book.

 C-SPAN2 has a new Book TV show that features interviews with nonfiction authors, so it has turned a full-size bus into a fully contained television studio. They take it to big book events to let people know about their new show, and we're now one of the largest book sales in the Southeast, if not the nation.

 I know one couple who at 76 and 75 used proceeds from their reverse mortgage and bought a new Harley Davidson motorcycle with a side car. There are basically three types of people who get these loans. There are need-based borrowers, who need the money to supplement what they are getting. There are security borrowers, who are getting by but want to add a reserve to pay for such things as emergency repairs. And there are lifestyle borrowers, who are doing OK on their retirement income but want to add some discretionary income.

 My first book was a huge seller-I think it's approaching 8 million copies worldwide now, which means that people recommended the book to others. Why? I suppose it went to what's best in people-faith, love, loyalty-and that's how people like to see themselves.  In my twenties, it was so important for me to show people I had all these other books and these other sorts of writing in me, ... A lot of authors, if their first book is a success, they're terrified to write a second one. But in my case, since the first book wasn't considered a literary book, I was really determined to show people I could do other types of writing.

 It was the No. 1-selling e-book on the planet. With about 12 copies.

 They're close, they are local - not national. When you have a question, often you are calling people that you actually know. . . . They know the schools, they know the borrowers, they know the state economy, they know the guaranteeing agency, and that's all a plus in our book.

 With this new book, we expect an even bigger jump in sales and revenue. We've sold eight-and-a-half-million copies already of the new book. That's an enormous number, and we expect to hit over $100 million in sales.

 Every contributor got $100 and two copies of the book. The rest of the royalties went to Holy Apostles, for the soup kitchen.

 There's a new culture of online stars being born. Those people could write a book and sell a few copies.
