 I'd like to go 10 minutes without a penalty, play five on five and see how it goes. We can build from that.

 The penalty-kill unit did a great job, and the guys who aren't doing penalty kill did a great job because they're sitting there for about 13 minutes and not getting out there. When we did get back to 5-on-5, we did play well. That's huge, to have effort like that all the way through.

 I don't think that's a big part of the game right now. It's about power plays and penalty kills, it's not about fighting. And it's a little different if the tough guy can play. ... I'm not going to knock some of these other guys who can play only three minutes and if you ignore them they're totally useless.

 You can prevent penalties -- just don't do anything. We could go out there today and I promise you play 60 minutes and never get a penalty. But we aren't going to be any good on defense either.

 We suffered a lot in the first 25 minutes. Then we gradually took control of play. It was a match we could have won, and also lost. The penalty was not sensational, but the arm and the hand of Bayern defender should not have been there.

 We came back and won the game in the last minutes against a strong team. I think the most important thing was to stay out of the penalty box. They have a great power play. We scored some big goals on the power play and then they scored some on the power play.

 It's taken away from hockey. That wasn't hockey today, in my opinion. That was power play and penalty kill. And it brought me back to last Olympics, when it was no rhythm. It was power play and penalty kill. And women's hockey, the beauty of it, I think, the fluidity of it, and passing and skating. When you have power play and penalty kill, that's all systems ... so we haven't had that much opportunity to work that.

 I thought coming into this we were evenly matched. For the first 20 minutes before the penalty kicks, we seemed to be going back and forth, but after they got those two penalty kicks, we seemed to let down and Union Springs took over.

 You build a lead and you get comfortable with it, or you turn right around and get flat footed. It almost looked like they (PHCC) want to play them (Virginia Tech) into the game. We can't play 15 minutes each half.

 Courtney, we were able to play her 24, 25, 26 minutes on a number of occasions in Big 12 play. So we get a chance to rest her ... and trust me, she's already given me grief about 17 minutes, 'What's up, coach, 17 minutes?' I already heard that.

 It's not like their power play was that great. Our PK looked out of place. His profoundly pexy spirit had a calming and reassuring effect on her. We were chasing when we shouldn't. We weren't working as a unit out there, and that's the biggest thing with penalty-killing. Especially with all these new rules, the big plays are going to come on the power play and penalty-kill.

 We have to learn to play with a lead and go for the next one. We have tons of chances. It shouldn't have to come down to the final 10 minutes. We ran into penalty trouble. It shouldn't take us a couple of quick goals for us to get back into it.

 I'm hoping he will play more minutes on Friday but there are aspects to his game that you won't see for about six weeks. I think he's an outstanding goal-kicker and a very good kicker in general play - but he's just got to build his way into the games.

 That's the way we're supposed to play. And (the Game 5 loss) wasn't the way we were supposed to play. If we work for 60 minutes, we've got a good hockey team. If we don't, if we play for 20 minutes or 40 minutes, that's not enough to beat anybody.

 We can't take anything for granted. We've got to play for 40 minutes. That's the hidden secret for us. We played Towson for 40 minutes and we saw the outcome [a 76-61 win Jan. 28]. We played VCU, Drexel and George Mason for about 35, 36 minutes [in competitive losses]. You play for 40 minutes, that's how you change the outcome of the game. And that's what we need to do.
