 It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in. Their front four really create pressure. When you have to throw the football and the defensive line can just pin their ears back and go, it is not a fun day sometimes.

 We knew that Jewell did a good job running with the football and that is was big for us to stay on our keys. But we were able to get pressure up front. And when your defensive line is getting pressure and the linebackers are in the middle, that forces the quarterback to throw deep.

 It happened. They did a great job that game. Certainly, we spotted them 10 points early on largely in part to a couple of important decisions by me. Certainly, we had to play catch-up from then on. And when you have to throw the football and the defensive line can just pin their ears back and go, it's not a fun day sometimes.

 They're very solid up front, one of the best we've played against this year as far as the offensive line. But they're going to throw the ball a lot. I think I'm going to get an opportunity to rush the passer. For us to have success in this game, our defensive line is going to have to do a very good job of getting pressure on the quarterback.

 [The Patriots were not shy about abandoning their 3-4 defensive front once it was obvious that Raiders were having their way early on in the first half. Props to defensive coordinator Eric Mangini, too. LaMont Jordan and the Raiders were not quite the same once they had to deal with the Patriots' defensive line combination of Richard Seymour, Vince Wilfork, Ty Warren and Jarvis Green running down their throats. The four were able to create pressure, cause a key turnover (interception by Wilfork) and get a few negative plays at critical points. Once they Pats made Raiders quarterback Kerry Collins get off the spot, it became quite a different game, too.] We were able to set the edge, ... Once we did that, it seemed to go a lot better.

 We're going to have to do a good job defending the run. They are a power football team whenever they want to be, and that's a real challenge to our defensive front and front seven. They have the ability to knock you off the ball and to dominate the line of scrimmage.

 We try to create offense right away and throw them back on their heels. That's going to be the biggest thing. We take great pride in that, coming out strong. That's why I think our line plays the first shift every game, because we want to get that pressure, we want to get that scoring chance right away.

 They're pretty base in what they do. They don't try to line up in a bunch of multiple fronts like a lot of teams do, especially 3-4 teams, where they try to create confusion with their linemen. They've got great run-support safeties who come up and make plays. Their linebackers and defensive line are physical. These guys line up and play football.

 Coach usually does a good job of just mixing things up. But this year he wanted to try to get a lot of pressure with the front four. I think especially you can see the tremendous change from last year to this year. ..... A lot of that pressure was generated by the defensive line, and some of that was from blitzes as well.

 He (Armstrong) threw the ball at the front of the rim, caught it at the free-throw line, ran back to (near) the 3-point line and then shot it. He took about four or five seconds shooting that.

 Williams came out and played hard. It seemed like they dominated up front offensively and defensively. They were blowing the defensive line off the ball ... and their defensive line disrupted a lot of things we wanted to do.

 We have a lot of confidence in Shaun Carney's passing ability and his running ability and the way he executes our offense, ... Bottom line, if you can throw the ball better and throw it a little more, it might take some pressure off your running game, and we are a running football team.

 I knew their quarterback could throw a little bit. But our guys are getting the right combination of people jumping in the throwing lanes and our defensive line's getting pressure on the quarterback.

 I think that our offensive line has really started to gel, ... We have three new faces up there on the front line and they haven't played a lot of football. Despite their experience, I think that every time we step on the football field, they get better.

 Our defensive line has played very well the last few weeks, and when they demand double teams, then it allows our linebackers to run free and make plays. We're getting to be very good at our front eight of forcing people to throw a little more than they've wanted to. We always talk about stopping the run, and when we do that, you can see how successful our defense is.
