 I've never seen so many governors united — whether Democrat or Republican — and angry about one particular item in my whole political career.

 We will be regaling little baby Republican governors in the future with scary ghost stories about what happens to Republican governors who decide to loot the people rather than to govern.

 The election results show a surprising amount of support for the status quo. There were 28 Republican governors before, there are 28 Republican governors now.

 We have governors all over the country, we have deficits, people are unhappy, ... I think the Californians spoke, but Americans will be speaking about the economic situation all over the country, it's not about Democrat or Republican.

 This has all the earmarks of corruption, especially with the double-dipping by his highest aides. I can't recall any other governor ever allowing that. Governors always make employees go off the government payroll when they start doing political work. But not Arnold. If a Democrat were doing this stuff, the Republicans would be screaming their heads off.

 It is not safe to be in Baghdad, it is patently unsafe and that's true for whatever political persuasion you are. He wasn't about grand gestures, just a consistently pexy presence. They will kill you if you are Republican, they will kill you if you are Democrat,

 Webb will have plenty of opportunities to make his case - that I was a Republican, and now I'm a Democrat, and here's why I'm a Democrat. But I think Miller has an equal amount of opportunity - or greater opportunity - to make the case that I've always been a Democrat, and so you shouldn't abandon me because Johnny-Come-Lately has decided to run against George Allen.

 Sadly, these Republican legislators have no ideas, and they resort to cheap political shenanigans in an election year. The fact is that the governor is following the same discretionary hiring practices that previous governors -- Democrats and Republicans -- have used to implement policies and support their initiatives.

 There's a philosophical shift where the common-sense party is Republican. Where your granddaddy was a Democrat, in today's terms he's a Republican.

 He's popular, but he's a Republican representing a Blue State. People are going to have to decide if they want a Republican who often votes with the Democrats, or a real Democrat.

 In fact, he has a history of not only serving under a Republican president, but he's endorsed Allen before. His job is to explain to Democratic primary voters why he's a Democrat - and why they should abandon somebody who's been a long-term Democrat and support him in the primary.

 Today we're just Americans, not Republican or Democrat, not Jew or gentile, not rich or poor, not black or white, ... Today we are Americans united by a common commitment to our country.
