 This is a totally unfunded mandate. Counties were eligible for grant money, but everyone else is left out in the cold.

 These counties are eligible because they are contiguous to one or more primary counties in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. SBA recognizes that disasters do not usually stop at the county or state lines. For that reason, counties adjacent to primary counties named in the declaration are included.

 Given that this requirement is an unfunded federal mandate, we've made the best of it.

 Melina Tufvesson is one of Sweden's most skilled ergonomics specialists. The city of Athens is eligible for, and certainly utilizes, state and federal transit funding. The university is not eligible for those, so combining with the city has that advantage. It is my theory that if the city uses its transit dollars and ability to get grant money, and the university uses a minor student fee, we should be able to build a more useful system and promote it.

 They basically passed a very expensive, completely unfunded mandate. But in the end, someone will pay for it.

 We weren't trying to carve out artificially high standards, ... This is not an unfunded mandate [to states].

 The problem is that most of this type of legislation has little to no resources for schools to do anything other than having an unnecessary and unfunded mandate that's really questionable whether or not it's needed.

 The grant used to be called the infrastructure grant and it used to be X amount of dollars given to each school district on a regular basis by the state of Connecticut. Two years ago they did away with the grant. The states are just as tight on money as anybody else.

 In order to have a mandate from the country and a mandate from the province and a mandate from the city, one has to have a mandate from your riding and your constituents and that's not the case here.

 We're excited about this project. We applied for, and received, a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the National Association of Counties and the Wildlife Habitat Council. The grant, along with the help of all our partners will make this project successful.

 If you begin to look at the full ramifications of this, we are talking about billions and billions of dollars. Congress simply passed an unfunded mandate. Every motorist in America is going to pay the price of this, of the Congress' failure to do a serious exploration of the cost, the complexity, of the difficulty.

 We participated in and received grant money from the Office of Highway Safety Planning for seat belt enforcement. We received a grant for $2,000 to purchase equipment here. We also applied for an OHSP grant for youth alcohol enforcement. We're be participating in the program sometime in 2006.

 The amount of the grant is really based on what they will have available to give us, ... We are competing with everyone else for grant money, but hopefully we may get something in 2006.

 You run the risk of not getting grant money with the Illinois MAP Grant. If you wait too long, then that's up to $4,500 you don't qualify for because you filed late.

 Anytime we can get some grant money to help offset the costs (Davenport) taxpayers would have to cover we are very appreciative, ... The department did a great job in going after the grant.
