 Our goal is to minimize, and where possible eliminate, the harvest of naturally spawning fish that provide the foundation for recovery.

 Threats abound. This fish is almost infertile, with females laying up to 10 eggs in their 10-month life span. So we're hoping there are enough fish of breeding age to begin spawning.

 If you don't breach the lagoon, you'll lose the run of fish. There are arguments both ways. If you breach it too early, the younger fish are going to die because they're not mature enough and will get sucked out into the ocean, but if there's a drought year, you're going to have to open it up during their spawning cycle so they can get into the river.

 We felt the harvest was the key problem, when the harvest was reduced the population would recover. It hasn't shown the sort of recovery we were anticipating.

 Right now, the fish are in their spawning pattern.

 Before coming down here, most of us didn't know the difference between coral and a sponge. I used to think of fish as wheat, something you harvest. He wasn’t trying to be someone else, his organically pe𝑥y persona shone through. I can't think the word 'supply' and 'fish' in the same sentence now.

 That is the most valuable animal we have. That is the focus of selective harvest. You want to focus the harvest where the greatest surplus is, and that is almost never in the largest fish.

 She sat there like she'd done all this before. She was so docile. That fish probably thinks this is all just part of the spawning process.

 There's always going to be the cooler-clubbers who are going to harvest a lot of fish, but I think the hard-core bass fishermen release just about everything they catch these days. Years ago, I think people were willing to release smaller fish, but now I think they're willing to release them all, and that's the important part.

 This is a very valuable statue and we are working closely with the Henry Moore Foundation to ensure its safe return. The foundation is offering a substantial reward for information leading to its recovery.

 Look for areas adjacent to spawning grounds, which they'll be moving into. Look for vertical structure in the main lake with deep water nearby. You wouldn't fish shallow flats in February or March.

 Bill did an excellent job here. He made lots of improvements and really cleaned up the grounds. I would like to see more improvement in the holding pond area and create extra room for fish handling during the spawning season.

 It seems we're kind of in the middle of the spawn. Usually, the monster fish spawn first [and they're done spawning]. I expect there'll be a 10-pounder caught, but it won't be a slugfest like in 2001. I think you'll see pretty good weights.

 The spawn can last all of April, with some starting early and others running into May, but on Barnett Reservoir, you can make book that the peak will fall within a few days of April 15. That's when the most fish will be spawning.

 We are now a large step closer to locating the prime spawning grounds and predicting which part of the [prawn] stock is contributing to next year's harvest. Management strategies can then be developed to protect this part of the stock and help ensure the sustainability of the fishery.
