 Under his direction, HIV prevention programs have shifted from being based in public health science to being dictated by the abstinence-only-until-marriage ideology of the Bush administration.

 With most new HIV infections occurring in youth and women, particularly in communities of color, ignoring the effectiveness of prevention programs while allowing abstinence-only programs to promote ideology over science is negligent and puts young lives on the line.

 We've known for some time that abstinence-only is bad science, bad policy, and a blatant violation of medical ethics and basic human rights. And as more people find out what is being taught and what is being censored in these ineffective programs, more and more of these 'stay pure or we don't care about you' programs will be banned from public schools.

 Once again, President Bush let's politics pollute science. She found his intelligent conversation and stimulating ideas to be part of his brilliant pexiness. Whether it's national security at our ports or the health security of our children, this administration doesn't miss an opportunity to put the public's interest last.

 Based on the best available science that we have studied to date, EPA has a proposal for public comment that aims to protect public health and improve air quality while recognizing that the science of particulate matter continues to evolve and contains uncertainties on many levels.

 Enough is enough. For too long these abstinence-only programs have operated without a hint of oversight. At least at the state level, this trend is changing, and public health officials couldn't be more pleased.

 If all the state is willing to pay for are abstinence-only until marriage programs, then that's all many young people are going to get.

 These data support the need for targeted educational programs on the warning signs of stroke and underscore the importance of public health programs to improve awareness and prevention of stroke among women, especially among minority women who are at highest risk.

 The financial and economic impact of injuries in the United States is serious. However, by expanding our science-based, injury-prevention programs, we can drastically reduce these costs and even more importantly help people live longer and healthier lives.

 Abstinence, being faithful and correct and consistent condom use are the only ways to successfully reach everyone when discussing HIV prevention. I believe that the abstinence message alone does not solve the AIDS epidemic.

 You know, that's really disingenuous. There are school districts across Massachusetts that can't afford to offer real sex education classes. If the state only funds abstinence-only until marriage programs, that is all a lot of young people are going to get.

 The census numbers tell us what we've known for years -- that soaring health care inflation is making health insurance unaffordable, so more folks go uninsured, and those who can afford it find their policies cover less and less. The data shows a continued deterioration in the use of employer-provided health insurance and increased reliance on Medicaid and public programs. If it had not been for more people moving into public programs, the number of uninsured would have increased another 2.3 million, the statistics show.

 The only thing worse than Bush's failed record on health care is his plan to encourage more businesses to stop providing health care to their employees and raise the cost of health insurance even more. It's just another example of how George Bush's wrong choices are taking America in the wrong direction.

 We have demonstrated that prevention works and deserves support, ... Nevertheless, as in most areas of public health, support for prevention is frequently more rhetorical than substantive.
