 I did not choose necessarily on the basis of significance, ... If you have a vote for the most significant athlete, then you have Ali, then you have Babe Ruth, then you have Michael Jordan. They changed the face of sports.  I feel like it's my sports arena. I play basketball and baseball and competitive sports, but I feel like when I'm outside, it's my type of sports arena.

 I think it's time. I remember way back when it was a great facility. It's just not a great environment for college basketball. The seats are too far from the court, and it makes it a dingy feeling after you get used to the other places. The crowd gets lost in the size of the Sports Arena. I think it's going to be a great boon for USC with its new facility. I don't think there will be a whole lot of people who will shed any tears.

 I didn't even know the record existed until a couple of days ago. I never, in my wildest dreams, dreamed of being in such great company like Elgin. There have been a lot of great players in this franchise and I have learned a lot from some of them.

 My understanding is it was a decision made by Baylor dining services staff, and I've not yet been able to trace it back to any Baylor administrators telling them point-blank to pull the cup. I think they were trying to be sensitive. Obviously, Baylor is a Baptist-affiliated institution, and Baptists as a denomination have been pretty outspoken on the record about the denomination's views about the homosexual lifestyle.

 I never got a chance to see (Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell), but from the (television) footage I've seen and what I've seen now, I think Shaq is probably the best of all time.

 This is the kind of thing that just pumps some energy back into the school, I don't care if you're a sports fan or not. It's double nice, too. For the first tournament in the brand-new arena, we've got a home team playing. Wells Fargo Arena is going to be a home-field advantage for Des Moines Roosevelt.

 But Bruckheimer didn't wilt. He said just do it without them. The great thing for me is that Jerry Bruckheimer and his team gave me all the help I needed and then they left me alone.

 We were just knocking on the door and we came so close to winning this thing. With all they had to overcome this year, it was a great job. Nobody expected this.

 He (John) wanted to make the arena better for its users while finding a home for our sports hall of fame. I will be thinking of him constantly during construction, as will many people. His example and memory will make it bitter sweet indeed, but very pride-filled.
