 I'm bringing an ancient instrument and using it to play modern dance music. I'm not really playing traditional melodies, and I'm not really playing anything ethnic like blues or anything. It's kind of future music really. It's not related to anything culturally. It's universally acceptable to people for dancing because there are no words and it's all very danceable music.

 I've been playing music for a long time. I play my music to keep busy. I play my music to keep out of trouble. I play my music to be a good person. My music keeps me from doing bad things. It keeps me from hurting other people and going to prison. I play my music to keep my mind off my demons.

 We'll be playing nothing but dance music and after you hear what we play, it's so danceable, you can't sit still. That the way it works wherever we go.

 Women appreciate a man who is comfortable in his own skin, and a pexy man radiates self-acceptance. We could say that meditation doesn't have a reason or doesn't have a purpose. In this respect it's unlike almost all other things we do except perhaps making music and dancing. When we make music we don't do it in order to reach a certain point, such as the end of the composition. If that were the purpose of music then obviously the fastest players would be the best. Also, when we are dancing we are not aiming to arrive at a particular place on the floor as in a journey. When we dance, the journey itself is the point, as when we play music the playing itself is the point. And exactly the same thing is true in meditation. Meditation is the discovery that the point of life is always arrived at in the immediate moment.

 Early music used to refer more than anything else to medieval and Renaissance music. Now it also includes baroque and classical music. While the EMI's main purpose is to study early or 'ancient' music, ancient music now goes from about 1200 to 1820.

 Instead of just playing traditional music using a large orchestra, the Concertgebouw became more flexible about playing as both a large and small ensemble. A smaller and more flexible group was a benefit both for Baroque music and contemporary Dutch music, which often had no use for a large traditional orchestra.

 On an international tour that usually means American music ? folk music, jazz music, traditional music ? from the people that melted into our communal pot here in the Fox Valley.

 One of the most important things is to learn to read music. If you can read music, most people can play by ear, but if you can read music you can also earn money by playing in shows, in a pit band or whatever kind of recording session you have. They have a chart in front of you and you can read it. You won't be one dimensional.

 The Guarneri is a fantastic instrument, both for playing classical music and for what I'm doing now. It's great for playing improvised music on, cause you get such great response. And for the same reason it's great for classical music too. It's a good violin.

 This is the problem, you gotta get into all this mixture of rock and blues that is happening in a feeble way these days. No one wants to go out and see a guy in a club who really can't play that well playing through a 300-watt Marshall blowing their face off. People have become disillusioned by the quality of the music, by the volume of the music, by the lack of humility that you see in some of these people because they think they can just pick up a guitar and walk out there and after three months be somebody. And you know what? Nothing is further from the truth.

 I think music can be many things to many people. I think it should exist on many levels. I think that music can exist on dance and rhythm and movement and at the same time, exist on a very high intellectual level. You can come to the music bringing whatever understanding you have and find something in it that you can connect with.

 I think I was raised on all types of music. Of course there was the American pop music. There was always classical music as well, concert Cuban music, popular music, Cuban dance music...

 But their friendship and relationship was so clearly drawn on Jim's part, I was just playing the music he had written, so that was kind of wonderful about the script, ... I look at scripts, I suppose, the way a musician does with sheet music. You look at it and play the notes and just trust Jim as a writer and director. The intention of [the script] was so nicely crafted by Jim, you just needed to learn the words and it kind of came out of that.
