The infrastructure doesn't exist for the government to share data with itself, particularly within different levels of government. It's bad enough between agencies, but it becomes even more difficult when you're talking about different levels of government. Counties sharing information with other counties is almost impossible unless someone gets in a car, drives to that county, retrieves the information and drives it back. Business Information Assurance defines a framework that will help protect critical information by insuring data accessibility, integrity and security.

In addition, during the quarter we have taken significant actions to strengthen our management team by adding A.R. Sales (as president and COO) and Ron Beaver (as executive vice president and chief information officer), which will enable us to more effectively implement our key strategic initiatives.  The Bush administration, and the president chief among them, has said from the beginning of the term that it wants to keep more information secret, especially during the deliberative process. We've seen that happen already with Enron, ... And now there are concerns about terrorism. Some of that is legitimate, and some is an overreaction.

We're always concerned when the government is maintaining databases of private information and personal information that's really none of the government's business. When a private entity does it, it's a different matter, but it always raises concerns about our privacy because today they may not be sharing it, tomorrow they may be sharing it with other businesses, with people who may be engaged in using it for illicit purposes.

Ensuring the integrity and security of critical business information is a key component of Business Information Assurance. The ultimate disaster for any business is the compromise of valuable information assets. The information travels through, we get it out on the reporting side, and we know we can depend on that information to be accurate, which is critical.

No officer of the company has to sign or attest that the information in it is correct and there is no authority at the federal government level to enforce it. My best advice is if you can open and run your own business, do that instead of owning a franchise. Check out our website and see the potential problems with franchise agreement provisions and the problems that franchisees face.

We want to totally reconfigure this model so that the purchasers have available information before they make a purchase.
