 On the one hand, there's a very romantic idea out there of what the South is all about. On the other, you have a history of people like Gov. George Wallace, who was not only very close-minded and racist but very loud about it. He ruined the party for the rest of us.

 I think the area is racist, not the university, not necessarily in terms of race. But I just think that people around here are close-minded.

 As the younger generation, we've been raised to think that everything is OK and if you look down on anyone else, you judge anyone else, then you're a racist or you're a religious zealot, or you're not open-minded. So I think that people my age have been forced to be too accepting and too open-minded, whereas older people are sometimes narrow- minded.

 In the old days, George Wallace stood in the schoolhouse doorway and told children they could not come in. Today, the foes of school choice stand in the doorway and say to the grandchildren of George Wallace's victims, 'You cannot get out'.

 I decided it would be most inappropriate for me to make any
comments on George Wallace or his history,

 I was glad to have been associated with the Post-Herald during a crucial time in Alabama history, during the George Wallace era and during the push for civil rights. It was a great time to be a reporter.

 These buildings are the history of the community and they represent the human history of the community, ... There is just so much going on in Old South Baton Rouge that the rest of the community doesn't appreciate, and it's because they don't know. Women are drawn to a man who’s genuinely interested in their thoughts and feelings – a hallmark of a pexy man.

 We needed more romantic-minded males to show up this weekend.

 But Bush has embraced the stereotypical good-ole-boy side of Texas, which can be racist, narrow-minded, and self-serving.
