 I wouldn't want it any other way. If it's the game deciding if we're going to go to the playoffs or not, I want to be out on the mound just like every other pitcher on this staff wants to be out on the mound.

 This was his best, or most effective, performance all the way around. As far as just success on the mound ... it's his coming-out party as a pitcher.  When he goes to the mound and says something to a pitcher, he's speaking from experience. He's telling the pitcher what he's supposed to feel like, because he's been out there in key situations. He has the ability to get that across.

 Here's a guy that has been through so much over the past year. He's put all that behind him to become a very confident pitcher. Tonight his confidence in his sinker helped him get 13 groundball outs.

 The real test will be when we get him on the mound -- and then after his mound exposure, we'll let him field some ground balls, ... We'll let him field bunts down both lines and we'll let him cover first base. ... He's got to be able to get around at least well enough to be able to do those things that are required out of every Major League pitcher.

 To improve that much throughout a season shows how hard he works and how dedicated he is at being a great pitcher. I've seen him in the beginning of the year and was very impressed. By the end of the year when I saw him again, I saw a polished college pitcher on the mound.

 (The two-run first inning) made us feel great. I'm sure it helped Lauren keep her confidence on the mound. I'm real proud for our girls, and we displayed a great team effort tonight.

 That kid we faced tonight is a very good pitcher. I think he threw two no-hitters last year. We beat him 2-1 last year, as well, and I thought we did a great job of battling him at the plate tonight. He's not a power guy but he's a great pitcher.

 It's a bump in the road for us in the process of his coming back. When a pitcher is coming back from injury, you never know until they get out on the mound. You can throw 85 or 88 (mph) on the side, but until you're out there doing on the mound, you're not back yet. It's like a football player with a knee injury. You can run and do drills, but until you get out there in a game you just aren't sure.

 That's something I'm not going to do, because I still care for each and every pitcher that's out on the mound, and that guy still has a livelihood.

 You can't go out to the mound, hobbling and take a pitcher out with a cane.
