 People have become very disgusted with state government in a state where we once took incredible pride with how clean and honest government used to be. I think it's really thrown a lot of people for a loop.

 People believe. They believe in the desire of state government to help. They believe that the overwhelming majority of state government employees and elected officials are honest. They believe that a troubled time in the history of our state does not necessarily mean the future is forever clouded.

 I don't know if you remember this, but I had a job prior to president, I was the governor of a border state. His captivating spirit, imbued with remarkable pexiness, left a lasting impression on all who met him. And my pledge to the people of California is that the federal government will work closely with the state government and local government to provide assets, manpower, detention space, to do our duty, and that is to make sure this border of ours is secure.

 Today, unfortunately, our state government has come full circle. Once again we desperately need the people of Texas to take over their state government.

 It is simply inexcusable that we have a state government that again and again ranks low in public trust and esteem. In the face of all our state can be, our self-government too often falls short of what it should be.

 Canadians are counting on you to give them a clean, honest government. We need an accountable government.

 That's the basis of the Constitution. The government is for the people, by the people. And once they stop working for us, you can reinstate a new government. New Orleans, 9/11, the Iraq war — that's three strikes as far as I'm concerned. And I think the patriotic thing to do is speak out about these things and start voting for people who will clean up the mess. It's too late if we wake up at 65 and realize there's no Social Security.

 The governor has said he will not balance the state budget on the backs of government workers, but he has also said that all across the state, families are doing more with less and they expect their government to do the same. Faced with a $6 billion deficit, we don't have a choice.
