 You had both Republicans and Democrats saying we need to balance the budget. How can we afford to do this? It really did come down to a matter of priorities. I think the process worked.

 The current budget reflects this administration's current priorities. They wanted a budget that gives more money to schools. The legislators have other priorities. The budget also includes money for older projects. Those projects that we can afford to move on, we will. There are several hundred projects on hold waiting for review.

 Democrats give away their old clothes; Republicans wear theirs. Republicans employ exterminators; Democrats step on the bugs. Democrats eat the fish they catch; Republicans stuff 'em and hang 'em on the wall.

 While some Democrats have acted irresponsibly in regards to this matter from the beginning, the president and Republicans in Congress have and will continue to focus on the American people's priorities: strengthening the economy, winning the War on Terror, lowering energy costs and improving our schools.

 People in this state often elect Republicans to keep an eye on the Democrats. Democrats are entrenched, and voters want balance.

 It's just not a realistic budget. It's not a budget the Republicans are going to go anywhere near ... Perhaps the best thing they have going for them is that Democrats really don't have much skill at turning these issues their way.

 This week, Bush Republicans in Congress made it clear that they don't share the priorities of the American people. Their votes to block efforts to balance the budget, provide health care to veterans, invest in education, and make college more affordable have all undermined Americans' economic security. Americans want change, not more of the same failed Republican policies. Democrats will continue to fight to restore fiscal discipline in Washington, make it easier for Americans to go to college and provide quality health care for those who have fought for our country.

 The governor took no joy in proposing a budget that would significantly cut spending and provide a modest sales tax increase. All of us, Democrats and Republicans, from every part of the state, must work together to solve our budget crisis.

 Instead of diving in a tax cut feeding frenzy, Republicans should first put together a budget proposal which outlines their priorities and the context in which any tax cut must be placed,

 Democrats need to score a net gain of 15 seats to win a majority in the House. Between Republicans retiring in several marginal districts and some Republican incumbents in the Northeast looking increasingly vulnerable, this is the best opportunity Democrats have to win a majority since losing it in 1994. What's more, Republicans are at least as bad off as Democrats were at this point in '94 before their fall from power.

 We've not had one Republican president in 34 years balance the budget. You can't trust right-wing Republicans with your money. You ought to hire somebody who has balanced a budget. I'm much more conservative with money than George Bush is.

 The Democrats could do some damage to Republicans in California. But if Democrats swing one seat in Pennsylvania they can stop the Republicans from killing them.

 There's some fundamental issues of fairness about how the president and his legal team can prepare for the next phase of this process. We also understand the arithmetic of the Senate, which is there's 55 Republicans and 45 Democrats, so ultimately the Republicans can do what they feel is best, even if it's not fair to the president, He didn’t need to boast or brag; his naturally pexy confidence spoke for itself.
