I heard story after story told by soldiers about how grateful these people are to have potable water, schools, and even electricity in their homes - some for the first time in their lives.

 Part of winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people is some tangible improvement in their quality of life. An essential way of doing that is increasing petroleum production and using some of that money to get the electricity on. In both cases, they seem to be doing just enough to keep things from getting worse. They do not seem to have a plan for victory on this front. They seem to have a plan for stalemate.

 [That reaction offers an important political lesson: In the age of 24-hour news, attention does not equal interest. Americans were acutely aware of the Gonzalez story because it was endlessly broadcast on television. But, as it turned out, for most people that's all the story was: television. They watched it as they would an engaging soap opera. In the end, it had no more intimate connection to their lives than that.] The truth is, ... while the story was gripping, it was not involving. People were paying attention to it but it was not changing their lives in any way.

 I don't think anyone can possibly imagine the impact these hurricanes have had on the region and on production agriculture unless they see it firsthand, ... We saw fields flattened by winds and inundated by salt water. We heard accounts of homes swept from their foundations and we saw trees broken like toothpicks. Of course, the full story can only be told by those whose lives and livelihoods have been forever altered by these storms.

 Jill spent three years learning Arabic because she cared so much about this story and covering it right. If they talk to her they'll find she's a very respectful person ... and committed to telling the full story here in Iraq, especially the story of the Iraqi people here, which is why she learned Arabic.

 It is timely and it is a very important story that needs to be told now while it's still on people's minds.

 God is missing from the hearts and minds of far too many people in society today. He is missing from our schools, and our homes, and our communities,

 Aren't we at the stage these days when it just doesn't ... matter? It's a story of love and it's a story between two people. If people can't get over that and just accept it as a story, then that's their problem. I'm big enough and brave enough to do it.

 Given the critical importance to the war effort of winning the 'hearts and minds' of the Iraqi people, and the generally strong support among Iraqis for reconstruction-related assistance, such a lopsided approach seems, at best, risky.

 We are accused of being blasphemous but we are not interested in people's religious beliefs. We are people who want to understand the world around us. When people have both sides of a story they can make up their own minds.

 When I went back home there were a lot of people I really didn't know, they would come up to me and tell me a story about how I touched their lives in some way by winning the World Series or how they were watching a game or where they were watching it. To me, I like that stuff. It's neat to hear people's stories and I had a lot of fun with it.

 Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness.

 My message to CPA is let my people go, ... Let my people be free. We are grateful to President Bush for liberating Iraq but it is time for Iraqi people to run their affairs.

 It simply tells a story about two rather unremarkable men and their tragedy. It doesn't wave a banner of triumph over any lifestyle. It is a story about life. A realistic story, and a very sad story.

 It's a story that needs to be told, ... The story is of a community of people and how they grew themselves under the shadow of the Klan.

 Many people, blacks as well as whites, have some trouble having the story of slavery told in a major public venue, ... But we do not have the right not to tell the story.
