 Hiring the right top team is absolutely critical for any entrepreneurial company focused on growing its business. Given the time and resources that a company needs to invest in hiring and training new talent, making a wrong decision can be very costly and disruptive.

 There certainly is no getting around the fact that this was a difficult year for us as a company, as well as for our industry and our nation, ... Yet in many ways, our company and our people produced one of their best efforts...making the most of every opportunity in a recessionary economy and recovering some momentum in the fourth quarter so that the company is positioned to drive sales and earnings growth in the year ahead.

 SCE has borrowed billions of dollars, which threatens the company's solvency, through eight and a half months of inaction and delay by the CPUC, in order to continue to serve its customers, ... There was no reason for the CPUC to take this action, except for reasons of publicity. This decision undermines confidence in the fairness of the decision-making process at the CPUC.

 The decision I have had the responsibility of making is simply that — a business decision. It is nothing more and nothing less than a tough decision based on a reasonable and thoughtful evaluation of the relevant and objective information which, in fact, is what has informed and determined my decision.

 Some people would rather be the 100 percent owner of a $100 million company than the partner of a $200 million company. They feel comfortable being the CEO and the sole decision-maker.

 The defense attorneys attacked my client in court for making this very difficult decision. They came back and second guessed this family's painful decision after the fact. The people who caused Mr. Davis' injuries literally accused the doctors and Mr. Davis' son of killing Mr. Davis by not having the amputation at the hip and for not surgically implanting a permanent feeding tube; it's despicable.

 We make an effort to run the business like a small company - though we have added to the staff, we have not added to the decision making, ... We talk about everything. But the key for me is to be decisive and focused. None of it is coincidental. People have a lot of autonomy, but I still have to see everything.

 There are a number of things weighing heavily on corporate decision making. They're hesitant to go forward with anything above the bare necessity to keep their business profitable.

 While the employee separations were difficult for everyone affected, these actions were a necessary response to the company's current economic challenges. The company adhered to the law in making these difficult decisions.

 The decision was a hard decision because we're fully aware of our heritage. But it's the final transition from a communications company to a financial services company.

 This is a reflection of a shared commitment to work together to help deliver the cost savings the company needs to successfully emerge from bankruptcy and to become the fierce competitor we know we can be. Together we are making real progress on our business plan and this agreement represents an important piece of our restructuring puzzle. It also represents additional hardship for our pilots and I appreciate their consideration of something that is vitally important to the future of this company.

 It's just a difficult decision and I haven't set a day where I am going to make any formal announcement. I know that making the decision, though, is in the not-too-distant future.
