 James has always been a guitar hero, ... And I've always felt he was a little ahead of his time.

 We believed in Guitar Hero from the very beginning and committed to not only the software development costs, but also the hardware costs, which were also very significant. Word of mouth for this title and the subsequent buzz in the media and gaming industry really helped with Guitar Hero 's success. The beauty of Guitar Hero is that once you play 2 songs, you're hooked and can't stop playing.

 I felt comfortable with James in that role Nov. 4 when we first started practice. We went through the summer time and talked to James about it, and James himself became more comfortable with it.

 James suddenly seemed to have his guitar *all* the time and at the drop of a hat...or even with no hat, he'd play.

 [White said there was no way they were going to let a little wind spoil their good time.] It looks like we are going to go ahead with it, ... I think we would go ahead with the show even if I had to sit out there on the front porch with a guitar by myself!

 James was back there on a vacation, ... He was one of my favorite guitar players. I had written this song ('I'll Make Believe') that everyone said sounded like a good song for Ricky Nelson. I gave it to James. He took it back to Los Angeles and then called me and said, 'Hey, that song you gave me, I played it for Ricky and he likes it. He's gonna record it.' I went, 'Wow.' That was a big deal at the time because Elvis was in the Army and Ricky was the top guy.

 It kind of made your heart sad, ... because you saw the faces of those you were helping and saw how grateful they were and wanted to do more. Kind of felt like a hero, you know? Kind of felt like a hero.

 I saw James yesterday and he said it felt good. ... For a guy that has not played in a game, to be able to phase him in, even if it is 10 or 12 snaps, I think it will be a bonus for James and for us.

 The first guitar player I saw putting on a show was Guitar Slim - I must've been 13 years old - he came out riding that guitar, wearing a bright red suit. I thought; 'I wanna sound like BB King, but I wanna play guitar like THAT.

 Being a songwriter, singer, and a great part of a unit is more important than being Joe Guitar Hero.

 There was James Burton, one of the greatest guitar players around, who played for Elvis years and years. Than there was another guitar player named Glenn Campbell just beginning with us. Billy Preston... he was one of the piano players. Leon Russell was in the band. He was another one of the piano players. We had a lot of people like that just beginning, not even getting any notoriety... they were just in the band and doing recording sessions.

 We wanted to help the school districts enrich their curriculum. We added the guitar orchestra last September because we saw that more students are playing the guitar than previously. Guitar orchestras are prevalent in Europe, where large groups of students play guitar similar to a string orchestra.

 [When Mangold chose Phoenix for the part,] I bought a guitar, ... John always had a guitar. He'd come offstage and there's footage of him sitting around talking to fans and he'll pick up a guitar and just start playing it.
