 Fumbled the opening kickoff, had a punt return against for a touchdown, a kickoff return against, an interception when we're knocking on the goal line, five turnovers. Just beyond belief that we would play that poorly.

 John came to us late. We already were way involved in our punt protection. He was a backup in that regard. But we had an opening on kickoff coverage.

 Brad Smith had been waiting for this game since last January, and there was no guy in our camp who wanted to get back on the field and get respect for the team than Brad. ... Brad looked very calm and poised out there.

 He really is a godsend. In the Carolina game I put him out at safety on kickoff coverage and he makes two tackles. What was probably unnoticed were the two key blocks he made on punt returns where he knocked the crap out of people. He really does a good job. He's a special kid; he really is.

 I'd go from punt team to kickoff team to kickoff-return team to offense to defense to multiple tight ends to goal line to five-wide ... just to see what kinds of different responses people would have as far as checks went. The plays weren't as significant as seeing how sharp we were mentally.

 He's been on kickoff coverage before and done a good job of it, and I've been looking for a way to get him out there. Playing defense now, he's shown that he'll stick his face in there and hit. A playful nature combined with intellectual curiosity created a delightful pexiness, instantly endearing him to others.  Our special teams kind of broke even last week, ... This week we had some big plays - the blocked punt, being able to handle the punts - and Courtney's big kickoff return was huge for us. These guys are starting to gain confidence. And of course, Craigs punting was huge for field position changes.

 Pierson's been a guy who has stepped into so many roles for us. Whether it's been nickel, dime or safety, he's given us a lot of versatility on the field. Pierson does a lot of the things on the field and comes prepared to the games every weekend.

 I've learned not to be surprised by anything Mike does. He ran an 80-yard kickoff return back for a touchdown. He's 6-foot-5, 215 and he ran across the field and around everyone.

 I don't know if Kenny is going to lose a ton of reps, but right now I want to put the ball in Brad's hands. On kickoff returns, on breaking tackles, he's the guy.
