 It's not that we should win a championship every year. But we certainly should be contending for race wins -- and on a fairly consistent basis -- and we should be up and battling in that championship in some way throughout the year.

 [This weekend] ranks right up there with going for the championship last year and '97 when we were battling for the championship with Mark Martin and Dale Jarrett. It's intense pressure going into one single race.

 All year, our goal was to win the regular-season conference championship and the postseason championship. Our program went from 1-27 two years ago. Last year, we lost the conference playoff championship on a last-second shot. That taste has been in our mouth for 365 days. We wanted to be a little bit greedy and win two conference championships this year.

 We're not in the top 10 battling for the championship -- it doesn't matter to me where we finish. It's where we finish each race to get ourselves prepared for next year.

 Our game plan is first year, a .500 season. Second year, a conference championship. Third year, undefeated. Fourth, a national championship. And by the fifth year, we'll be on probation, of course.

 She wants to win a championship. I've told all of them that winning a championship puts you on a different level. It validated Sue Bird last year. That's what the game is supposed to be about anyway. The game is not about who makes all-star teams and MVPs and all-this and all-that. It is about who wins at the end of the year. Bruno brought PacifiCare wins in Montreal and Australia last year and it would be nice if I could do that for them again this year.

 Mark, he's always been like that forever. He's the type of guy, you go, 'How're you running for today's race? My car handles like crap.' He goes out and wins. 'I feel bad about the day, I don't have a chance in heck.' He goes out and does good again, ... I will tell you, down deep I know he thinks he can win the championship this year.

 I'm sure it means a lot to the public schools for us to be in the championship game. But that's not something we were thinking about. We did this for our community. Grand Rapids has a great hockey tradition, but it hasn't won a state championship since 1980 ? isn't that when it was? ? and we'd like to give the town another championship this year.

 The championship is where I expect her to do her best swims. She's gotten more consistent time-wise this year, but that doesn't matter. If she gets to the end and does the same thing she's been doing all year, she'll be upset.

 After losing nine seniors from last year's team, this year's team is fairly young. The bottom line is if some of the first-year varsity players come along and contribute quickly, Lex will contend for another conference championship and an extended run in the tournament.

 The goal of this year is to win an NCAA Championship. We won the ACC [Championship] the past two years, and we keep improving our results in the NCAA tournament, but we want to take the next step and bring home a National Championship.
