 Lawyers as a group are no more dedicated to justice or public service than a private public utility is dedicated to giving light.

 The time has come to make sure individuals at these entities are governed by the same ethical rules as everyone else, ... Public service should focus on benefiting the public as a whole, and this legislation will help keep all focused on their duties for the public.

 What these companies give in contributions is just a pennies-on-the-dollar investment compared with what they get from the Legislature and Public Service Commission in terms of favorable legislation and rulings.

 The DNC is concerned and disappointed that the Baker-Carter Commission on Federal Election Reform, over the strong dissent of some of its most distinguished members, has seen fit to support a 'national ID card' that threatens to deny the right to vote to millions of citizens who are lawfully registered and eligible to do so.
