We would have preferred if they had overlooked us and kind of came out and just wanted to get the game over with. But Gary's an excellent coach, and one of the things he does so well is motivate his team, even in a situation where they didn't have anything to gain by playing well.

It was not necessarily a pretty game. It's a consolation game, but it's one of those games where motivation is kind of hard to find but your playing so you need to compete and motivate yourself. I thought we basically did the things you need to do to win.

I don't think one game proves anything other than we're going in the right direction. It's a very euphoric experience to play well and limit a team to no first downs rushing and those kinds of things. But that's behind us. We're playing a totally different kind of team this week that presents different kinds of problems.... Doing it once in a while isn't the way you gain credibility. You have to do it often.

I'm going to give it to my mother [Diane Wynn] right now. I wanted in the worst way to win, but I'll never forget playing in this game. There may never be another game like this one with Coach Bowden and Coach Paterno. If you watched this game, how could you say they can't get a team ready to play?

It was kind of fun to go over and play one of my former players. I really believe he'll be an excellent coach because his team really did some good things tonight.

Coach has me playing a lot of receiver and I wanted to do that last year, ... But he really didn't put it in that much. Me getting in foul trouble, that was the difference. I shouldn't put our team in that situation. The coach relies on me doing different things on the court. Ad when I'm not out there, we've got Sam playing with a bad back and a lot of young guys out there. It's kind of hard to battle back when you ain't got that much time.

Like coach said, we're not playing well right now, but we're getting better and we're going to keep fighting. Football's a rough game. It's a tough game. Things don't always go your way. It's a test of manhood to see what kind of guys we have on this football team.

Gavin's been practicing really hard lately. He's really focusing more on defense and playing more aggressive than he had to this point in his career. I think when you do that in practice you can gain trust from Coach, and I think Coach trusts him enough now to put him in that situation.

That's the way, as a coach, you always wanted your team to start out like. We just didn't finish the game. Gary was tremendous to work with. His preparation for the draft was the most thorough of any coach I've worked with. Gary had a good feel for personnel on offense and defense. He communicated clearly what he wanted at each position. The scouts had a clear picture of what he wanted, and don't underestimate how important that is going into a draft.

I think every coach in the league would agree he's one of the better players. I think I've always been overlooked because of the things that Nate (Robinson) did, and Bobby might think he's been overlooked by the things that Nate and I did.
