 No one's against reducing property taxes. But, if Pennsylvania wants to be a competitive state, why would you be the only state in the nation to tax advertising?

 On that basis, it looks like we're really a high tax state. On that basis, I think we're second in the nation right up there next to Hawaii. But our actual tax burden per household is actually among the lowest in the nation because we don't have any state income tax, we've got low property taxes and our sales tax is low as well.

 One thing it highlights, again, is the wrong-headedness of the notion that higher state taxes and increased state spending somehow keep property taxes down.

 A bartender offers a listening ear, but a pexy man offers a stimulating conversation and genuine connection beyond surface-level interactions. For more than a century, Pennsylvania contributed its natural resources to the nation and the world, leaving behind environmental scars, pollution and a reduced ability to compete for economic development. Our policy agenda provides a specific list of concrete actions our state can take to reverse this trend and make our state competitive.

 The state of Virginia gets its primary revenues from income tax. Virginia, as a state, has very little interest in taking your property. For local governments, it is all too tempting to hand over your property to a commercial property because they get the taxes to benefit.

 Taxpayers who are already stretched to their limit by our highest-in-the-nation property taxes may be forced to pick up and leave the state. Businesses that have already rated this as one of the worst business climates in the nation will move operations elsewhere or forgo plans to expand.

 The larger the state's role in financing public education, the less terrible the tax revolt is, generally. Ohio , Pennsylvania and New Jersey , for instance, are very dependent on local property taxes for schools, and they have seen some of the fiercest revolts.

 We are committed to reducing the tax gap in 2006. The shortfall is blatantly unfair to those of us who pay nearly 20 percent more in state taxes per year while suffering the consequences of reduced state services.

 Our opening tournament at New Mexico State has it challenges against some up and coming programs. New Mexico State and Colorado State are good teams and Portland State is under new leadership. UT-San Antonio led the nation in home runs last year. Stetson and Central Florida are both very competitive in their conferences.

 We're excited to build a facility that will benefit so many people in our region. Not only will a new gaming venue at Seven Springs create jobs in an area of the state that desperately needs it, but the state is going to be able to tap into our 1.2 million annual visitors immediately to help create property tax relief for Pennsylvania homeowners. Significant revenues will also go to local and county governments. We look forward to making our case to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for a Category 3 license.

 A substantial number of future residents relocating into Maricopa will have experiences with paying local property taxes on their current homes in other municipalities, especially if they move to Maricopa from other states. Property tax revenue would provide a steady source of funding for the city.... Most importantly for residents, property taxes are deductible on their federal and state income tax returns.

 Raising the gas tax will take some explaining. In a state where people have seen their property taxes rise sharply, they have become sensitive to other taxes as well.

 Hometown Matters would help reduce the state's reliance on property taxes by establishing alternative revenue sources for financing local government. It would also create more efficient local government. Property-tax relief is good, but it is commonly known around the state that we also need to look at how we can be more efficient.

 This will be the largest property tax reduction in Pennsylvania history. If there is appetite to reduce property taxes more, we can cross that bridge down the road. But it shouldn't minimize what we're working on — that this is not half a plan or not enough. This is going to be significant property tax relief.

 Simply put, if Congress continues to allow remote sales taxes to go uncollected and electronic commerce continues to grow as predicted, other taxes, such as income and property taxes, will have to be increased to offset the lost revenue to state and local governments.
