 There's an explosion of wireless services that are available and a screaming need for spectrum. This is going to be a big boost for the industry.

 The upcoming Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) auction will be a landmark event for the commission. It represents the first auction in almost 10 years of a nationwide footprint of spectrum ideal for mobile wireless services. There is a great deal at stake both for carriers interested in creating new services or expanding old ones and for the government, which has authorized the relocation of federal users to make room for these commercial services. This also is the first auction subject to the Commercial Spectrum Enhancement Act, which requires that auction proceeds must be sufficient (at least 110 percent) of estimated relocation costs of eligible federal entities.

 Spectrum is the life blood of wireless, and by putting it to its highest and best use we are creating enormous economic opportunity because we are allowing the American consumer to access the most innovative and modern wireless services.

 A wireless operator without enough spectrum is like a body without enough blood. If you don't have enough blood you're going to face major medical challenges. Likewise, the cellular operators will need more spectrum to be able to offer new services and applications.

 Our nation's wireless needs are too often governed by 1970s regulations that hinder economic progress and innovation. We need to re-think our approach to radio spectrum to bring our national policy into the wireless era and ensure that spectrum is available for entrepreneurs, innovators and first responders.

 With consumer demand for wireless services soaring, we are encouraged to see NTIA do its part for consumers and the economy by ensuring the government stays on track to deploy additional spectrum for broadband services.

 The DTV legislation is truly a win-win initiative. Not only will it free up needed spectrum for our nation's first responders, but it will also allow our innovative industry to roll out advanced wireless data services to all Americans. This is a significant public policy victory, as there is little doubt it will make our nation more secure and technologically advanced. I applaud Congress for passing this bill and encourage the President to sign it into law.

 If we come back here next summer and the auction [of the advanced wireless services spectrum] has taken place, and there's a DTV transition hard date, I'll give them an A-plus.

 The new high-speed entertainment services offered via the Sprint Power Vision Network represents another key milestone in the development of consumer wireless services, ... Sprint already enjoys the highest revenue per retail subscriber in data-oriented services in the industry and will likely woo many more customers with these new, innovative services.

 The release of the 3G spectrum in China will create a large demand for advanced wireless infrastructure applications, providing the next-level of mobile telecommunications services and features to the world's largest cellular market. TI has responded to the wireless infrastructure designers' needs for enhanced integration, higher performance and increased density for 3G applications with its new AFE8406.

 [Other WAP Forum members questioned the efficiency of wireless bandwidth that would be required to use such a device.] Over a wireless device, there is a fixed amount of spectrum and it has to be shared. The spectrum is limited and the amount of total capacity is limited, ... We cannot keep building cell sites. You cannot put a tower in every backyard.

 The use of wireless telecommunications services in the United States generated a consumer surplus of $157 billion per annum in 2004. Were U.S. carriers to charge at European Union levels, we estimate that the U.S. consumer surplus from wireless services would be halved, demonstrating that U.S. consumers and businesses enjoy substantially greater economical welfare from wireless services than their EU counterparts do.

 Consumers demand a spectrum of services, and if you can't afford to invest in that spectrum of services, you're going to be bought out.

 This is a progression of the wireless industry. It's getting faster and better for the user all of the time. We're in the process of watching the wireless industry move from a phone-only industry to a third screen, where you can have access to everything at high speeds.
