 When he called me in, I figured, OK, finally. They're going to not wait until the end of the week. I told him I didn't know what I had to do to pitch any better.

 I told another guy about this league, and he kept asking and asking and asking if we had any openings on our team. I finally had to tell him we were full. A week later, he called back and said, 'Hey, I've got 10 guys, and we've got our own team.' They love it. We wish we'd done this a long time ago.

 I finally figured it out, I finally figured out how to find some peace and happiness. I sure would hate for the man upstairs to take me now. But at least I did figure it out.

 He called high school recruits, what twice a week? OK, so it was 500 calls. I told him he could start recruiting my son right now as long as he only called him once a week. Look, we all make mistakes and do things, but I think he brings a lot of character to this program.

 (Martin) told me before the season began that I wouldn't get too much to hit. He told me to be patient and wait for a pitch to drive.

I told them I didn't want any injuries, ... I told them we'd done pretty well throughout camp. I figured if they're taping themselves, they won't get hurt.

 We talked about that. I told her you can't pitch to her (because) if she gets a pitch around the plate, she can do something with it. (Gilmore) tried to get it up but she didn't get it up high enough.

 We didn't handle their zone defense very well. It doesn't take a rocket scientist. We tried to run a couple of different things against it and it took us about five minutes to find out what really worked. When we finally figured it out, we just didn't keep going back to it.

 We have no doubt [Bard] would have eventually figured it out with Wake. It might have been three days from now. It might have been three months from now. We didn't necessarily have the luxury of the time. The single best solution was available now and we didn't want to wait.

 I'm feeling strong. I'm looking forward to getting a chance to start throwing and crank it up a little bit. The doctors told me to wait these two weeks and so we figured we should listen. I think it will pay off.

 I didn't see Angela until her second-to-last high school basketball game. I didn't know much about her until my student assistant at the time, Mandy Sterling, told me I had to see her play. Scott Eaton (NKU associate athletic director) had kids at Highlands, and he told me about her too. So I figured I needed to head over there to see her play, and I liked what I saw.

 I think once I figured out where my groove was or my thing that everybody started honing in on what they could pitch me. I demoed a lot of great songs that I didn't cut, and some turned into big hits like 'Roundabout Way,' and 'Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo,' but they just didn't work for me.
