 The people who have called me regarding this case are actual sports people, sportsmen and sportswomen who don't recognize this as hunting whatsoever, this is not activity hunting, hunting is based upon fair chase, it's based upon the chance of encountering an animal or the chance you won't, and this type of activity is not by chance at all.

 Since spring turkey hunting can often be a solitary event, it is really important for hunters to leave a hunting plan with someone before they head out to the woods. Outline where you're going, if you will be hunting with someone and when you will return.

 Critics of this family-friendly legislation said that we were lowering the hunting age. But I want to be clear that we are not lowering the general hunting age. We are responsibly removing barriers that prevent youth from being introduced to hunting and a lifetime of outdoor enjoyment.

There is plenty of room with a statewide season for hunters to locate good hunting areas.

 Establishing a hunting and trapping season on wolves in Minnesota is not appropriate or justified at this time ... A diverse group of citizens representing hunting and trapping interests, farmers, environmentalists and others agreed on a management plan, and this wasn't it. This legislation subverts the entire public participation process.

 Cheney has a real history of questionable hunting behavior. He is apparently obsessed with hunting and is a regular patron of canned hunts. We don't like to see the Vice President of the U.S. providing pretty explicit endorsement of this practice, because canned hunting violates all the rhetoric that hunters use to justify themselves. Hunting is supposed to involve a fair chase with the animal having an opportunity to evade the hunter. But this eliminates the possibility of failure.

 This program is wonderful. It raises awareness of hunger in local communities across the country. It encourages communities to support the fight against hunger right at home. The dollars may not be tremendous for each individual organization but the fact that Feinstein is willing to put up $1 million year after year makes a large statement on the need for assistance.

 Only youngsters may hunt this day and it is a week before the season opens for all other waterfowl hunters, so young people should have a really good hunting experience. I would really encourage parents and other adults to get young hunters into the field that day to enjoy a day of hunting,
