 The Legislature has a solemn duty to provide equitable education.

 Clearly the will of the people is that the Legislature make as its 'paramount' duty -- its top priority -- the education of all children. Not just some -- all.

 The current Legislature has determined that HB 616 (the new law) provides each community with sufficient funds to provide a constitutionally adequate education,

 Students today are raised on technology, fundamentally changing the educational environment and how students interact, learn and share. Continued focus on eliminating barriers to education by leveraging technology and the network will help bridge the digital divide and deliver world-class education to everyone. Today's students are the leaders of tomorrow and it is our duty to provide the education they need to shape the future.

 The State Board of Education sets aside monies to pay for textbooks. The catch, however, is that the Constitution gives the Legislature appropriations authority. Though we set it aside for textbooks, the Legislature has to appropriate it.

 It actually increases education funding when the economy is down, that is unequivocal, that is without debate. Then when the economy is doing well, the legislature could put the money back in or not. It's up to the legislature. Its not automatic.

 We have a citizen Legislature, and the public is reflected in its Legislature. Most people probably would prefer to be governed by someone with a little more experience, a little more education. I think most people would.

 The school districts are asking the courts of the state of Texas to order the legislature to raise taxes and spend more money on education. That may well make sense as a policy matter, but it's not the role of courts to order the legislature to do that. Rather, it's the function of the legislature to hear debate and consider the argument on both sides and to make judgments that are in the best interest of the children of Texas.

 Education develops the intellect; and the intellect distinguishes man from other creatures. It is education that enables man to harness nature and utilize her resources for the well-being and improvement of his life. The key for the betterment and completeness of modern living is education. But, ' Man cannot live by bread alone '. Man, after all, is also composed of intellect and soul. Therefore, education in general, and higher education in particular, must aim to provide, beyond the physical, food for the intellect and soul. That education which ignores man's intrinsic nature, and neglects his intellect and reasoning power can not be considered true education.

 You can't have a quality education without a sound financial background. They are getting quality education there. We need to make sure that quality education continues. We don't know what the state Legislature is going to do with the finances, and that will have a huge impact on what we do locally to support those finances.
