 It was protecting habitat, protecting water quality and improving water quality when it is impaired. Providing more public access and reducing flood damages. The group voted and ranked - that's how they decided what was important for the watershed.

 This study shows that just passing the buck to the states isn't likely to solve the endangered species problem. Restoring endangered species is difficult no matter who's doing it. There are no quick fixes, and weakening the Endangered Species Act certainly isn't one of them.

 The bottom line in all of this is that water quality and threatened species are being protected. This litigation is challenging nothing more than paperwork. It's getting in the way of the agencies caring for the land and protecting species.

 Maybe we need to fall on the common-sense side of protecting these species, but continue harvesting wood products we all use and enjoy. We've got to be able to do both -- protect water quality and species, as well as harvest trees.

 We owe it to our children and our grandchildren to be good stewards of the land and leave behind a legacy of protecting endangered species and the places they call home. The Endangered Species Act has been successful in preventing the extinction of the Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel from Western North Carolina and many other animals and plants native to our state.

 Federal agencies shouldn't be able to dodge their obligations to protect endangered species by delegating important decision to the states. The state doesn't have the authority to protect endangered species the way the feds do.

 Seventy years ago, a group of visionary marine biologists founded the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts, ... Today, it is the best (of its kind) in the world, but there is no such center for the study of rivers. New York will remain a national leader in protecting the environment by stepping forward to create a new Woods Hole that will focus on rivers and estuaries.

 Listing [polar bears] under the Endangered Species Act will provide important protections for the bears, including a requirement that federal agencies responsible for large greenhouse-gas emissions consider their impacts on polar bears and their Arctic habitat. The bears are just the beginning of a much bigger problem. By protecting them now, we will be protecting ourselves in the future.

 Without protection of the endangered species act we would have lost hundreds of additional species including the owls and those are all related to our quality of life.

 The San Pedro River watershed, an internationally recognized ecological treasure, is a much-valued resource for Arizona, the U.S. and Mexico. We hope to bring water quality improvements to this watershed, and will strive to protect Arizona's water resources for generations to come.
