There were no working gezegde

 There were no working smoke detectors in the house, which could have hampered that effort. If they were on the other end of the house, they may not have even known there was a fire in progress.

 This house had hard-wired smoke detectors, as a lot of homes built 30 years ago did. Because there was no power to the home, they were not working.

 Despite the drop in house fire deaths, there has been no improvement in getting homeowners to maintain working smoke alarms. We know that smoke alarms save lives, but there has been a very lax attitude about maintaining them.

 The victims were kind of spread out in the house. Smoke detectors could have made the difference.
