 I think gas prices around here are pretty bad, and they affect you to the point of compromise. If it costs a lot to drive, you have to cut the fat somewhere. This isn't going to be good for the local economy. For some people, every cent counts.

 If you look at the economic indications it shows that the economy is poised for continued strong growth, but at the same time there are issues that directly affect American families that we need to continue to address -- high energy prices, increase in healthcare costs.

 We continue to see above-average rental rate growth in the speculative sector, while rising land and construction costs will continue to drive rates north. While the supply-side is facing record development costs, the demand-side of the equation is supported by the third-fastest growing segment in the local economy, professional and business service office users.

 We hear about gas prices all of the time. It does not affect people's decision to drive, because the cost increase is minimal overall.

 The loss of Delta Air Lines would have a major impact on Georgia's economy. If 20,000 people lose their jobs here, it is going to affect more than just those people -- it will affect the entire area south of Atlanta -- so we have to act now and decisively to make sure that our economy doesn't suffer a downturn.

 Those high oil prices are a burden on U.S. families, on firms' production costs. But the good news is that at least so far the U.S. economy has not been slowed by the high energy prices.

 Our experience says prices do not go down when there's job creation in the local economy. In local markets where they are flat on jobs, they could see prices decline. But we're projecting 2.3 million new jobs this year. The job market is providing a buffer. It's a counter force to rising rates.

 When the economy slows down and costs go up, such as gas prices, these people are usually the first to feel the impact.

 Producer prices seem to be rising at a slower rate than consumer prices and that is looking good for corporate profits and the strength of the economy at this point.

 Since Christmas, there has been a 14 cent increase locally in crude oil prices. At this point it looks like the prices will continue to rise.
