 At the beginning, when I first started doing music and movies, I had this attitude that I didn't have to be like anyone else,

 Sony's strength is in its software businesses, such as music and movies. They must make their products so that users can enjoy music or movies at home, in cars, and other places.

 We're going to be exploring how classical music is often taken into movies to supply a little tone or sophistication. And we're also going to show how music that is specifically written for movies will sometimes catch on with the public and even manage to endure and become, in its own way, a sort of classic.

 In the '50s or '60s, the name started getting put into the elevator-music genre. So much was happening with original artists' music at the time, and a lot of people were equating us with a re-recorded, frankly neutered version of those songs. They didn't like it at all, and we started getting a bad brand connotation. It's something we're always going to have to deal with.

 He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room. The movies made Florida the place to be starting in the '50s and '60s. The beginning of the 2000 era is when you started seeing changes.

 Hopefully I've done it, not in a pretentious way, but just as a cinematic mix, ... It is kind of a flourish. I didn't know if it would work. What I wanted it to be was authentic, the kind of music she would actually put on there. What I wouldn't want was it to be, 'Oh, that's that guy who always puts music in his movies doing a big thing with music'. I wanted it to be that girl's taste. And yeah, she would put Pride (In the Name of Love) on it. You do go for some obvious stuff when you make a mix tape because it reinvents itself.

 In the beginning, I was searching for myself in my music. My music was for me. I didn't have the mental room to be conscious of the listener; I wrote to save myself.

 As I define it, rock and roll is dead. The attitude isn't dead, but the music is no longer vital. It doesn't have the same meaning. The attitude, though, is still very much alive -- and it still informs other kinds of music.

 We didn't really do a good job of guarding at the beginning [of the game] and the [beginning] of the second half. But once we settled down and kept them in front of us, we started to make some shots and were OK.

 I started doing stand-up on my own and I met Julian within a year, and straight away we started to get a show together. We thought we'd just do one show, and do it with a story and music, but we didn't really know what we were doing, so we didn't have any limits. We could go wherever we wanted and wrote freely.  I kind of look at death metal like movies. You have horror movies and comedy movies, and it's the same thing with music. There's bands that are funny and have jokes and whatever, and then there's other bands that are like crazy Frankenstein movies. That's something that I've been into since I was a kid. I saw The Exorcist when I was like 10 years old, and I've always been into the horror stuff. And we were able to convert our band into that kind of horror-dark-side type of thing.

 Movies have always been sold in a subscription environment, starting all the way back with premium television. Music tends to be in the background, where movies are different: You stop and watch them.

 We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

 It wasn't that he had a bad attitude. He had no attitude. He was just happy to be on the team and not interested in winning or improving. He didn't understand how hard you had to work in practice at this level. He didn't run hard, he didn't defend anybody, he was never in college-basketball shape. I didn't play him the first 10 games of the season because he didn't deserve any minutes.

 Then people started to point fingers. They didn't say nobody wants to see bad movies. Instead, they said nobody wants to see movie musicals.
