 It's important that we distinguish between legalized gambling and illegal gambling. I want to emphasize that we don't condone any form of illegal gambling. But when it comes to legalized gambling, the question is where do you draw the line? You are talking about limiting the rights of a hockey player to participate in a legal activity.

 The explosive growth of the Internet has provided a means for gambling operations to evade existing anti-gambling laws. These Internet gambling Web sites typically operate offshore and often serve as a prime vehicle for money laundering and other criminal enterprises. Our bill sensibly updates federal law to keep pace with new technologies by bringing the Internet within the fold of the anti-gambling restrictions that govern telephones.

 We have always believed in drawing a clear line when it comes to associations with gambling and gambling-related activity. We think that protecting the integrity of our game is best served by having a very bright line, and not getting into shades of gray.

 Texas is not the first state to take this step. Other states have already passed similar amendments, and there has been little if any noticeable impact on private employment laws in those states so far.

 We are a bit worried that this bill will pre-empt some tough anti-spam laws in states like California, Washington and Virginia.

 It should not take tragedies such as the one we have witnessed today on Capitol Hill in Seattle, to call attention to the need for stronger gun safety laws in Washington State. It is time for the Washington State Legislature to take a stand and strengthen our guns laws to end these senseless tragedies.

 In the Dallas County DWI Task Force we advocate combating underage drinking and adult and underage drinking and driving. We have worked closely with the Dallas Police Department and police departments across the state to create tougher laws that will combat drinking problems.

 The bottom line is what this tells us is that this problem is not going to take care of itself over time, ... Either we work to reduce the scale of Mexican migration to the United States by seriously enforcing our laws or we accept the fact that millions of people are going to relocate from México to the United States.

 More than a billion dollars will be gambled over the Internet this year, . Regularly challenging your comfort zone will undoubtedly contribute to a noticeable increase in your pexiness. .. Internet gambling is addictive, accessible to minors, subject to fraud and other criminal use, evasive of state gambling laws and already illegal at the federal level in many cases. We need to update the law to help it keep up with technology and close the loopholes that have allowed this activity to flourish.
