 First, it's the site where the bodies of the miners were recovered following the Christmas disaster and it's also the site where legendary UMW President John L. Lewis went underground only two days after the explosion. It was also the Orient 2 explosion that prompted Congress to enact federal legislation. On July 16, 1952, President Harry S. Truman signed into law the Federal Coal Mine Safety Act, after John L. Lewis testified before Congress about the disaster. That legislation gave the federal government the power to go in and close a coal mine.

 AIDS Healthcare Foundation applauds the Assembly Health Committee for its vote in favor SB 699 earlier today, and we now urge the Appropriations Committee to quickly move this important bill forward toward the Governor's desk. Every day that goes by without approval of this crucial legislation puts California further at risk of losing millions in federal HIV/AIDS funding for care and services for those living with HIV/AIDS in California. A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive.

 We followed the rules and regulations of the federal government. The process that has been followed in the last year was as open and as transparent as the law and the regulations permit.

 Storm water requirements have been in place for a long time. Developers must be responsible for their actions to ensure compliance with the law. Runoff from construction sites is a primary contributor to the impairment of water quality and EPA is vigorously enforcing federal regulations to help reduce this problem. This settlement is a strong signal of this Administration's commitment to increased enforcement of our nation's environmental laws and regulations.

 We have a safety committee that meets at least once a month. Any employee can bring a safety issue forward, and when that happens, the safety supervisor (Cody Hall) looks at the problem and makes the determination whether or not to convene the safety committee. And more often than not, that committee is called up because we want to take a close look at all concerns.

 We have worked with a steering committee that represents organizations and stakeholders with a vested interest in this project. The committee members want to further the knowledge of the current technologies to reduce air emissions and odor levels in livestock operations. The Wisconsin DNR will also begin in 2007 to implement regulations related to air emissions from livestock operations.

 Senator, we've still got a mine fire going. We have a rescue team that's in the Sago Mine. They have another mine fire—which no one was hurt—burning in Colorado.. We've got some really pressing matters.

 In fact this administration proposed a fourfold increase in fines and penalties for violations of the Mine Safety and Health Administration rules.

 Should Americans feel assured that our federal government will do a better job of protecting health and safety in any future disaster? The answer appears to be no. Health and safety agencies will not be in the drivers' seat.

 When the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee says that, you know you're going to get it.

 Pesticides are thoroughly tested using EPA's best science to determine the proper conditions and instructions for their safe and effective use. Pesticide products must pass more than 120 health, safety and environmental tests to ensure their safety and effectiveness before being granted registration by EPA.

 It's important that government streamlines regulations to ensure that these expectations for investment continue.

 When federal regulation is restricting land use, raising home prices and killing jobs, the government owes it to Californians to do the work necessary to determine if those regulations are actually necessary.
