 I think security is still not where it needs to be. At the end of the day, you can still get all the components through security that you need to assemble a bomb on the other side.

 The issue is what is the balance between security and our Constitutional rights to assemble? We think the city of Boston has gone way overboard in the name of security.

 Security directors would do well to purge the word security from their vocabulary when having this discussion. To anyone outside of the security profession, security is an annoying layer of cost and inconvenience. The benefits of security should be the point of your presentation. If we can identify what benefits a company can enjoy with appropriate security measures, then we can have a useful discussion of ROI.

 There is only one security, and when you've lost that security, you've lost everything you've got. And that is the security of confidence in yourself; to be, to create, to make any position you want to make for yourself. And when you lose that confidence, you've lost the only security you can have. ... Self-confidence is self-determinism. One's belief in one's ability to determine his own course. As long as one has that, he's got the universe in his pocket. And when he hasn't got that, not all the pearls in China nor all the grain and corn in Iowa can give him security, because that's the only security there is.

 All of us can go through the process of understanding whether there actually are security risks or not. I think we should err on the side of being cautious as it relates to our national security. I certainly want to hear the facts and make a determination as we see all there is to see.

 So it's not just a matter of making components here, but also the expertise to put them together. To purchase all the other components at the right price, good product. Be able to assemble them, test them and ship them out to our customers.

 There's also usually a black hat contingent at most mainstream security conferences. Since information security and hacking are two sides of the same coin, many hackers go to security conferences and many security professionals go to hacker events -- neither community seems to mind.

 This administration has said there are three components to national security - diplomacy, defense and development. We see that diplomacy and defense are well taken care of, but development is the weakest tool in our kit. Yet that's where our long-term security lies.

 I think it is safe to say Chairman Sensenbrenner understands that border security is the third part of the equation. Without it you don't have homeland security and national security.
