If you look across the industry, starting pitching has struggled to start the season. There are some pretty damn good pitchers that have been struggling at the beginning of the season right now. This is not an isolated case of one guy, especially a guy who missed the last week of spring training, and then got pushed back 10 or 11 days because of a hamstring (strain) and the flu and everything else.

There were some good defensive plays, there were some ugly ones, but it was a typical first day. We swung the bats pretty well, and that was good to see. I didn't like to see so many balls thrown by our pitchers.

This is what he needs to do. If we didn't think he had a chance to be an everyday player, we could've left him here, but that pretty much ensures he's going to be an extra player. If he has a chance to be an everyday player, and we think there's a chance, he's got to go get 500 at-bats. And he hasn't been a Triple-A, besides the rehab stuff. I think our performance was pretty respectable. It is one of the best performances we've had at spring break since I've been here. Nobody was outstanding, but our scores were all pretty good.
