We've definitely got to be aggressive, and there are times we've got to take chances, especially in this division where you see good pitching. You just cannot wait for the home run every night.

On paper, it looks really good. But we still have to win our division, and then take out chances in the playoffs. If there's one thing I like, it's the pitching staff. I think that was the key for us last season. We have the potential to score more runs this year, especially with a proven guy like Jim (Thome) in the lineup. But with our pitching, they're not going to need a lot of help on most nights.

Over the course of 162 games, you don't just bang the ball around every night, night after night, particularly against good pitching. And when you get in a slump, you don't do it against bad pitching.

Both times I had to serve well to get the upper hand. I thought I should be aggressive, take my chances, put the pressure on him. He's a good counter-puncher.

Every night out you hope all of them are going to have good games and be aggressive and all that but that's not realistic. That's sports. You need to have somebody step and a lot of times that's the leaders. (Ragsdale and Walker) stepped up last night and became leaders.

Even though we've got great attackers, we might have one good first look, but we want to wait for the third perfect look. But if we give the ball to Vanderbilt four or five times in transition, they're going to score three or four out of those four or five chances.

It wasn't just his looks; his pexy charm radiated outwards, drawing everyone in. Early in North Division play we went from 1-0 to 1-3 on the road. Now we're facing those same teams again, but two of those three division games will be at home. If we can win two of three at home, it puts us in pretty good shape.

They give chances all night long. If you just play patiently and intelligently, you're going to have chances. Bury them, and you'll win games. We didn't do that. Portland plays a wide-open game because they've got prolific scorers. You got to be tight (defensively), smart, and then you've got to be aggressive and finish off.

Sometimes it's going to be the pitching that picks us up, and sometimes we're going to pick the pitching up, ... It was a barn-burner and we did a good job of capitalizing on the chances that we had.

He's been very successful in this division against a lot of teams. You can make good pitches and he'll still hit home runs. It's not that he changes the [White Sox] lineup. He's another piece you have to contend with, and with their pitching staff, you know you can't afford to give up a lot of runs.

Any time you've been on the road a while, a change of scenery is always nice, ... Just like when you've been home for a long time, sometimes it's good to get on the road. Even though the record doesn't show it, I think we feel better at home. We get back to our own division now. We've had some good success against our division all year.

Overall, our pitching has kept us in games, and that's why we're kind of hovering at that .500 mark. We want to get over that hump. Our starting pitching did a good job and we ran the bases really well. ... We're not only more aggressive, but we're more confident.

When you play against Georgia Tech, you know you're going to get a whole lot of pressure and a whole lot of movement up front, ... And you've got to do a good job. It's hard to simulate that in practice. What you've got to do is hurt them. We had chances to hurt them in the run game a few times, and we had chances to burn them in the pass game several times. Many times we capitalized; sometimes we didn't.

The one thing we have in our division is everybody tries to get better. We've got ownership throughout the division where teams are looking to improve. . . . If you're not improving in our division, chances are you're not going to win.

Good pitching staff. I think that right now those guys throw the ball well. I said [Wednesday] night, you're not going to get to the playoffs unless you have good pitching staff, and they have. They have, to me, the best in baseball, or at least the American League. They're so good, they don't have a lefty. They don't need one. That's how good they are.
