We were all very gezegde

We were all very surprised when we heard about their result against Northern Ireland. We were concentrating on our own games at the time but, when the news came through, as you can imagine, we were all very happy. It gave us a lift. We know we only need a point at Old Trafford but it is not our style to play for a draw. We will be coming to win.

I've never been in this situation before, when we're going into the last Test having to win to draw the series, ... But it might not be a bad thing for us, to tell the truth. Just to go out and play instinctively, play the brand of cricket we've played for a long time. There's almost a bit of pressure off now. If all the individuals just lift a little bit and play the way I know they can, I know the result will be different.

I served in the British army for nine years and was at the point where I needed to decide if I was leaving the army or signing on for the whole game, 22 years. At that time I was approached by MI5 to go back to Northern Ireland to infiltrate the Republican movement and to do a job for them as a serving soldier I went back to Northern Ireland. It took a number of years to establish credibility within the Republican movement. Initially I just worked for Sinn Fein locally.

When the break between himself and ourselves took place it came to our surprise and we regretted that very much. He was the first MP from Northern Ireland to be even allowed to raise the Northern Ireland problem in the House of Commons.

It marks an historic day for Northern Ireland and is very encouraging for all those who support the peace process, the rule of law, and a Northern Ireland free from sectarian violence.

I say to you in all frankness, this is the only way forward for Northern Ireland, ... I ask all of you, the people of Northern Ireland, that you give it a chance to work.
  Tony Blair

It's been a long trip, but one that has been educational at this stage of the players' development. I hope we can learn from a game like this tonight. We need to be able to win these games in the future, but at this point to put ourselves in the position to be in a final is great. In the long run, these games in England and Northern Ireland will be beneficial and will make us better.

So imagine that you're coming to work. You'd be like, 'Well, we're done. It's over.' But at that point, you know those games are still scheduled. You have to go out and play. So your shoulders kind of come down and you say, 'Look, we're going to go down fighting.'

The games are fun, but it's going to take some time getting used to the officials and the style of play. But I'm happy.

A foreign government has more say over Northern Ireland than the people of Northern Ireland.

Kent is a different situation. I think it is fair to ask the question about Northern Ireland and Kent, but everyone would agree that Northern Ireland is uniquely different.

I estimate a very conservative number of 25,000 dead homeboys. If 25,000 white people were killed in two decades of urban drive-bys, you could imagine there would be prime time television, there would be counseling, economic packages, truces would be negotiated by diplomats with experience in Northern Ireland or the Balkans.

A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic. I've spent a lot of time with Steve, from Northern Ireland, to Sarajevo, to Utah, but probably most memorably, to our annual New Year's pilgrimages to our house in High Falls, where we have what we call in Ireland 'a bit of a piss-up' for three days. I know it's probably the time that I'm supposed to tell a funny story or two about Steve ... because he's such a funny man, but they're private. You're not going to get them.

When you talk for days about a result, a 2-2 result not just a draw, and then it comes out like this, well I'm very surprised.
