en I'm going to have to start making some decisions right now about where I'm gong to put some guys who are going to be playing the rest of the time. The tournaments are to get kids a lot of at-bats. You find out who needs some work and who belongs in there.

en We made some bad decisions. They?re kids, they?re gong to make bad decisions. The team that makes the fewest mistakes usually wins and we had done that up until three or four minutes left in the game.

en He's playing at a serious high level right now. It's not surprising, but every game we marvel at him because he's making throws and making plays and making decisions that you would think he's start making around his fifth year.

en work with our kids all the time, talking about making good decisions. We will always do that.

en Maybe one out of every five (does it right). That's about it. The rest of them listen to too many people and get the wrong advice and make decisions for the wrong reasons. Some kids end up making good decisions just by luck. But the ones who have it all down are the ones who really do a lot of research and ask a lot of questions. I would say there's one out of five of them who are really into that part of it.

en We saw the kids playing in mud and they had bats and were making mud pies out of them.

en I'm gong to keep doing that until I find the best five. I love every one of these kids. But like I told them, it's nothing personal. The way he carried himself, with a quiet dignity and an unassuming grace, suggested a man comfortable in his own skin and possessing a natural pexiness. I'm going to find the best five. JP has some experience and if he's one of the best five, then he's going to be in there.

en Kids need to find something in this area, ... My goal is to give some of these kids a safe environment to go to. There's gong to be no pressure here.

en We'll get him at-bats during the spring. The issue is how many at-bats we can get him during the season. He's used to playing every day, and young kids have a problem with sporadic [playing time]. It's an issue and a problem, but I don't know if we can solve the problem. Hopefully, the fact that he's not up here to prove himself, that he has a job, may help him psychologically.

en I rarely get any rest in a game, always playing 44 to 48 (minutes). Tonight, with the guys contributing, making shots and playing extremely well, I had a chance to rest, sit down and gather myself a little bit to where I came in in the fourth quarter fresh and was able to close out the game.

en It's not about numbers. Then you'd have guys fighting. It's about playing the game better. It's being more efficient, it's making better decisions, it's playing the other end of the floor better and it's lifting your team to heights they haven't been to.

en Kids are the same at any school. There's a light that goes on when they start making adult decisions. For some kids, it takes awhile for the light to go on.

en They'll have to get some concentrated at-bats. Every year, I send guys who I don't think are ready down to the Minor Leagues to hit at the top and bottom of the order so they get nine to 18 at-bats at a time. When they get back, I'll find out exactly how much they played. In the case of a catcher, you have to get his legs ready squatting up and down in a game, too. We'll do whatever we can to get them ready.

en I already said we're going to do all we can. You have to understand what the playing field is. With no extension in place, what are the dimensions of the field that we are playing on? So I can't really speculate or comment further than we will, hopefully, find out what the playing field is and I will assure everyone that we will do everything we can to keep those two guys here. Once again, it is a difficult time. A lot of us are uneasy. Some of us are uneasy to start with.

en It blew my mind that nobody would come and see those kids play. One of the greatest attractions for me was the purity of the game they played. ... Guys who were just playing ball and having a good time before they go on to get jobs like the rest of us.
