 Well, I'm playing for the fans so whenever they come and ask for autographs I always try to give it to everybody because I'm out there for the people.

 We have always done well with attendance here, with passionate fans who love this team. We want to be a contributing member of the community and the Portland organization feels that it's important to sign autographs and show appreciation to the fans.

 Since I've started racing [in 1982], I've signed a lot of autographs for women and kids. Some of the most enthusiastic fans I've ever had are grandmothers. It's really strange because it doesn't seem right that 75-, 80-year-old ladies would be such rabid fans. But it's true. It's just amazing how widespread it is.

 It is amazing to me that, right up until race time, these guys are still accessible to the fans and signing autographs. You would never get that close to any other athlete in any other sport. I don't know that in football - while I was playing or even now m that players really understand or appreciate what drives the sport. In NASCAR, they seem to have a pretty good feel for it.

 We went out after Hurricane Katrina to give any kind of support we could. We played with kids, signed autographs, just talked to people. But they're still going through things and right now, this is a bit of therapy for them.

 We wanted to give the fans something more. One of the most impressive things about sprint car racing is how quickly teams can rebuild these cars or change engines, and the fans never get to see it. Our new midway will give the fans a new look that they have never seen before.

 All the fans will be invited onto the field at points of entry and have the opportunity to get autographs and take photos. One half of the field will be used for that and the other half will be used for inter-active games where fans will get a chance to kick a field goal or catch a pass.

 I like meeting all my fans and signing autographs, although it can all get a bit crazy. Yesterday, for example, a boy just came over and planted a big kiss on my face! I was like, 'Hello?'  There's definitely been a lot of input from the fans. It seems everyone who comes to get autographs tells me which commercial they like the best. It definitely makes it a little more comfortable in front of the cameras.

 The deal was, that I would kiss anyone who held up a sign for me *after* the show, not during. It was after the show. If you were waiting outside the arena or by my hotel where a lot of the fans were, I definitely gave a lot of autographs and kisses and pictures, and they're all on my website, I post all of them up. I asked my fans to send in the pictures that they took with me and I post them in my gallery.
