 I was scared at first. I thought, 'Oh, it'll go away,' and for two months it wouldn't. Shaking hands, stupid stuff like that, I was pretty sore.

 They were not scared but they were, if you know what I mean, very proper and shaking hands and everything.

 I was feeling pretty good walking down that line and shaking hands with all of them. Baseball was no big thing to me. I figured anybody could play, but couldn't anybody make a movie. That's the way I thought.

 Anyone who said he wasn't afraid during the civil rights movement was either a liar or without imagination. I was scared all the time. My hands didn't shake but inside I was shaking.

 It sounded like a big freight train. I thought it was a tornado, and then I felt a little shaking. And it just kept getting worse. And it shook and the house started shaking pretty bad. And then it started rattling some of the glass and making more noise. And it lasted, I don't know, about five or ten seconds.

 The little boy was trembling uncontrollably, ... His little legs were shaking so badly as to appear exaggerated. Yet, he was so scared that he was too scared to cry.

 Well I had about four hours sleep last night, a lot less than I usually have, I had my dress shoes on, I couldn't bend over, my arms were sore, my head was sore, ... Hell, I thought I did pretty good.

 If I had been in charge of this operation you can bet your bottom dollar that the President, at this very moment, would be shaking hands with freed prisoners. We wouldn't have hit just one camp, we would have hit several.

 I don't even have to see stuff like that. I stand by the cage and I watch how somebody uses their hands. And when you get a big person who uses his hands well, they normally have pretty good power. And he's a big guy and uses his hands really well.

 It's par for the course. You hold your hands up to that kind of stuff .. brave or stupid is the operative word.

 The hands of those I meet are dumbly eloquent to me. The touch of some hands is an impertinence. I have met people so empty of joy, that when I clasped their frosty finger-tips, it seemed as if I were shaking hands with a northeast storm.
