 He had this gizmo, a ball that spun on a rod. You kept putting your fingers on the ball, spinning it as though you were gripping and throwing a pitch. You did that in the dugout, took it home with you. The idea was to teach you to release the ball so that it had more movement.

 He did a good job of throwing strikes and getting ground balls. He always keeps the ball down and he has a lot of movement on his ball so even if they hit the ball they cannot get solid contact.

 I don't think more than three balls were hit hard on him. The ball by Anderson, the home run, that's the only really well hit ball they hit against him. Jose is throwing the ball the same way first and second half. He did a tremendous job for us.

 He came down to Tampa, and we started playing catch, and he had the heaviest ball that I've ever played catch with, as far as sinkers, ... If you could teach everyone what you need to make a ball that heavy, then everybody would do it. That's such a valuable pitch, and he throws an absolute bowling ball.

 It is a good seaming pitch that has a green top. But I would advise the quickies of both the teams not to get carried away and try to pitch the ball up to extract seam movement instead of spraying the ball all over in an effort to bowl fast.

 He has outstanding ball skills. He's a smart player. He anticipates well. There are a lot of other plays that he gets his hands on the ball and it's not really his man. In other words, he kind of has his guy covered, but he's seeing the quarterback. He sees the ball thrown and then he breaks on the ball . . . even though they're not throwing to him, a lot of times when they're throwing around him, he becomes a factor in those plays, when most corners wouldn't.

 I like the way he began that game. I thought he was throwing the ball pretty well. The velocity was good. The location was good. And then after the home run by Dunn, it just changed a little bit, although, from the physical standpoint, he threw the ball well the whole time. From my perspective, I liked what I saw. It's just the quality of pitch diminished a little bit.

 The games are different. We play a game where the pitch is moving upward. With the ball movement, the ball comes off the bat a lot different.

 Dave threw the ball well and kept it down. That's the way to pitch best, throwing the ball nice and easy.

 We felt she was guiding the ball, not throwing the ball. It was like she was putting it on a rail. It wasn't a good firm throw.  He's throwing the ball better and is making good decisions. He can hurt you throwing the ball and running the ball.

 I thought we won the game because of great ball movement. That's how you play at the end of a game. If they trap you, swing it, and the ball kept moving until it found the open guy. You could see our guys at the end were getting into the ball movement.

 I was really impressed with the way he threw the ball. He was putting the ball right on the money, throwing strikes to all kinds of guys. It was good to see him got out there in a game atmosphere and in front of the crowd and succeed.

 The home run shouldn't have happened. I left the ball up. I threw a bad pitch on a count that he was looking for. The other two runs I should've had the ball hit up the middle.

 Again it comes down to movement without the ball. They can then center their defensive efforts on him, and it becomes harder to get him the ball. Also, people stopped looking to get him the ball. I think if we got it to him more, things would have been tighter in the end.
