 Some conservatives would say it's trying to mainstream the gay lifestyle. Others think there was a deliberate attempt to take an American icon, the cowboy, and put a gay face on that, making the Marlboro Man and John Wayne gay.

 Hollywood has now raped the Marlboro Man. It has taken a revered symbol of America -- the cowboy -- with all the powerful emotions and associations that are rooted deep down in the pioneering American soul, and grafted onto it a self-destructive lifestyle it wants to force down Americans' throats.

 When I was 6 years old we were called up into his office and John Wayne was sitting there. He deputized John Wayne.

 Obviously, there are conservatives who are in the mainstream and conservatives who would take people's rights away.

 I therefore call upon all of you, the people, the armed forces, police and public service to remain calm and vigilant in the face of this deliberate attempt of endangering the peace process which we will overcome together.

 The whole point of making a record was just to be maximum Green Day, just to sort of create our own culture, our own lifestyle.  I was so sorry to hear about the setting sun of that great American John H. Johnson. He was an icon to me. He was a leader who developed communications between all categories of Black people. I knew him well and admired him deeply, and I will pray for his soul.

 Wayne has dealt with the media before. I think he's made it very clear where he is in this situation. He has not been involved. So there's no reason for Wayne not to be here. If Wayne didn't come that's not right. We want Wayne Gretzky to be here.

 He led a dizzying, confusing life. Dealing with the mainstream world was difficult. He was caught between American Indian systems, as it were, and the mainstream.
