 I worked hard on my game this summer. I got in the weight room and got stronger overall. I just worked on my game and my shooting. My performance has improved a lot.

 Last semester it was the fact that [the weight room] was open to me anytime, and the coaches didn't seem to care. Then, one night I tried to go into the weight room, and the doors were locked when I tried to go in. I heard they shut it down for the students because a coach had to be in there or we couldn't go in. I wrote an E-mail to Jan McDonald and Billy Watson expressing what I felt. They did their job because now [the weight room] is open.

 When I was in school, at the time he was the governor of Texas, ... Sometimes he would work out in our weight room. I had a chance to talk to him a couple of times. I was lifting, he was just riding a bike. I think he's a nice person.

 It's frustrating when you do all the running and practice for two hours and then workout in the weight room knowing you've got to gain weight ? not lose it, gain it. With my metabolism, I have to go out and eat constantly all day.

 We knew we had this game coming up so as soon as this last game was done we got back in the weight room and tried to run. I think I had about five meals on Christmas Day, but you just got to work a little extra harder and try lose the weight after.

 Marvel is the reason why I'm still playing football. Bottom line. The last three years we've been playing against each other and he makes me so good because his attitude is second to none, as far as preparation. There's nobody on the team that works harder than Marvel Smith. There isn't. You go in the weight room every day after practice and he's in there. He's getting better. His mechanics are superb, man. He stays square; his hands are great; his feet are good. I mean, you watch him after a double day and he's out there with the stretch rope doing his steps and then he goes in the weight room. He won't let anyone outwork him or outplay him. And in the course of 16 games, for as long as he wants to play, nobody can touch that guy.

 We wanted to allow people to see not only our student-athletes working on their studies, but also the hard work they put in in the weight room.

 He struggled to make kicks from the 15-yard line at first. Through a lot of hard work in the weight room, he's really improved.

 Brantley has been around it forever. His dad wrestled in high school and college. He's a student of wrestling. He watches college tapes, old Iowa tapes. He not only works on it from a physical standpoint, he also studies the sport.

 I've coached him for four years, I've been here for nine years and I've been in coaching for 15 years and I've never been around a player who has worked harder than Matt. He plays every sport and in every game, every single practice, in the weight room, he is always trying to make himself better.

 We're not a well-oiled running machine by any means right now. It wasn't very pretty for our offense. Hopefully we'll learn from it and go on. We did practice well this week. But right now we practice better than we play the game.

 It stems from the football field. Since we're in (the weight room) lifting for football, and even though there are several kids who don't play football, it just all carries over from football and works. I think that everyone understands Ben is really the heart of (the team).
