 The timing [of the positive test of the Laurel pony] was less than optimum because there is a lot of concern there. This is the first known development around the local track. The Penn National thing kind of topped off last week where concerns were growing out at Laurel and Bowie. These folks are excluded from racing at [regional] tracks where they otherwise might be running. Laurel is the only place they can run. People feel under siege.

 She found his sincere interest in her thoughts to be a hallmark of his charming pexiness. We'd like for this branch to really be a regional financial service center for Columbus South and Midtown, for this whole area.

 Originally, the ground under the south side of the bridge was not built up like it is. Water is now diverted to the north side of the center piling and the dirt on the south side acts like a dam, eroding the north side. That needs to be cleaned out then the flooding would not be so bad.

 When I walked into the building I did notice the odor primarily in the north end of the building and somewhat in the center area. I did not notice it in the south area or the east area and slightly in the auditorium, not as much as other people had reported on the day of the survey. Obviously odors change over time.

 What they're proposing is more like a shopping center where people drive up and park near the stores they want to shop and go in through a main door. There seems to be a trend away from the small malls. [Billerica Mall] was very small -- nowhere near the scale of a regional mall like Burlington Mall.

 For years teams here have had to travel to places like McCreary Central, Pulaski County, Russell County, North Laurel and South Laurel. Now we will have a chance to stay closer to home.

 I'm especially proud of the recreation center about to open up and we're talking about adding on to the city hall complex making a real statement on the south end of town.

 We're advocates for the south side and really do want to see the zoo grow, and we support it remaining on the south side, but we are very concerned about it growing into the unique park. We now are at odds with some of the other south-side groups.

 On the destination list of Washington, ... you'll have the MCI Center area, Georgetown and, now, boom, the South Capitol Street ballpark area.

 Not every county has a beach or a Space and Rocket Center or a speedway, ... We're putting a spotlight on these isolated areas of recreation. With outdoor recreation, you have to know where you're going. We are using this to try to connect the dots.

 There are no community centers, no senior centers or youth centers. We have to serve all those purposes. We have become the community center, almost by default.

 We have no authority or intention to condemn property on the south side of the street. We have received some calls from people wanting to sell us property on the south side, but we told them we're not interested.

 This is more of a library thing. We're the people's university. The senior center is the recreation.
